DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P16E3
DTC P16E3:PGM-FI-Battery Sensor LIN Communication Error (Engine Type: K24W1)

General Description

The battery sensor measures the 12 volt battery’s current, voltage, and temperature. It is connected to the gauge control module by the local interconnect network (LIN) line, and transmits/receives battery sensor information to/from the powertrain control module (PCM) via the CAN line. The LIN communication abnormality between the battery sensor and the gauge control module is detected by the gauge control module and sent to the PCM via the CAN line. If the PCM receives abnormal communication, a malfunction is detected and a DTC is stored.

Malfunction Threshold
The LIN communication between the gauge control module and the battery sensor is abnormal for at least 10*1 (20)*2 seconds.

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
Battery sensor LIN line open
Battery sensor LIN line short
Battery sensor power supply line open
Battery sensor failure
Gauge control module internal circuit failure (internal communication circuit)

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
