Camshaft Removal and Installation
Front

1. Battery - Remove


2. EGR Valve - Remove


3. EGR Valve Stud Bolt - Remove

Remove the EGR valve stud bolts (A).


4. Timing Belt - Remove


5. Front Camshaft Pulley and Back Cover - Remove


1.
Disconnect the CMP sensor connector (A).

2.
Remove the front camshaft pulley (B) and the back cover (C).

6. Front Rocker Arm Assembly - Remove


7. Front Camshaft - Remove


1.
Remove the thrust cover (A).

2.
Remove the front camshaft (B).

3.
Remove the camshaft oil seal (C).

Rear

1. Fuel Pressure - Relieve


2. Engine Coolant - Drain


3. Intake Air Duct - Remove


1.
Disconnect the breather pipe (A).

2.
Remove the intake air duct (B).

4. Air Cleaner - Remove


6. Cylinder Head Peripheral - Remove

1.
Remove the EVAP canister purge joint (A).





2.
Remove the EVAP canister purge joint bracket.





3.
Disconnect the heater hoses (A).





4.
Remove the harness bracket (A) from the rear cylinder head.

7. Timing Belt - Remove


8. Rear Camshaft Pulley and Back Cover - Remove

Remove the rear camshaft pulley (A) and the back cover (B).


9. Rear Rocker Arm Assembly - Remove


10. Rear Camshaft - Remove

M/T

A/T

1.
Remove the thrust cover (A).

2.
Remove the rear camshaft (B).

3.
Remove the camshaft oil seal (C).

Front

1. Front Camshaft - Install


1.
Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the lip of the new camshaft oil seal (A).

2.
Clean and dry the camshaft oil seal housing.

3.
Gently tap the new camshaft oil seal squarely into the cylinder head to the specified installed height.

4.
Measure the distance between the cylinder head surface (B) and the camshaft oil seal.

Oil Seal Installed Height:
0.5?1.5 mm (0.020?0.059 in)

5.
Insert the camshaft (C) into the cylinder head, then install the camshaft thrust cover (D). Always use a new O-ring (E). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.

6.
Clean the excess oil off the camshaft, and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.

7.
Install the dowel pin (F).

3. Front Camshaft Pulley and Back Cover - Install


1.
Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt (A).

2.
Install the back cover (B) and the front camshaft pulley (C).

3.
Connect the CMP sensor connector (D).

4. Timing Belt - Install


5. Valve Clearance - Adjust


6. EGR Valve Stud Bolt - Install

Install the EGR valve stud bolts (A).


7. EGR Valve - Install


Rear

1. Rear Camshaft - Install

M/T

A/T

1.
Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the lip of the new camshaft oil seal (A).

2.
Clean and dry the camshaft oil seal housing.

3.
Gently tap the new camshaft oil seal squarely into the cylinder head to the specified installed height.

4.
Measure the distance between the cylinder head surface (B) and the camshaft oil seal.

Oil Seal Installed Height:
0.5?1.5 mm (0.020?0.059 in)

5.
Insert the camshaft (C) into the cylinder head, then install the camshaft thrust cover (D). Always use a new O-ring (E). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.

6.
Clean the excess oil off the camshaft, and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.

7.
Install the dowel pin (F).

3. Rear Camshaft Pulley and Back Cover - Install


1.
Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt (A).

2.
Install the back cover (B) and the rear camshaft pulley (C).

4. Timing Belt - Install


5. Valve Clearance - Adjust


6. Cylinder Head Peripheral - Install

1.
Install the harness bracket (A) to the rear cylinder head.





2.
Connect the heater hoses (A).





3.
Install the EVAP canister purge joint bracket.





4.
Install the EVAP canister purge joint (A).

8. Air Cleaner - Install


9. Intake Air Duct - Install


1.
Install the intake air duct (A).


2.
Connect the breather pipe (B).

10. Fuel Leak - Inspect

Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel rail will be pressurized. Repeat this two or three times, then check for fuel leakage.
