A/C System Contamination - Inspect
1.
If the A/C compressor failure is diagnosed, always use this inspection to check the extent of contamination in the A/C system.

Remove the discharge hose (A) from the A/C compressor. Then, swab inside the discharge hose and A/C compressor discharge port with a cotton swab.
If no metal, dark gray or black residue is found, no contamination is present from the A/C compressor. Replace only the A/C compressor.
If metal, dark gray or black residue is found, go to step 3.

Remove the suction hose (B) from the A/C compressor. Then, swab inside the suction hose and A/C compressor suction port with a cotton swab.
If no metal, dark gray or black residue is found, go to step 4.
If metal, dark gray or black residue is found, replace the components listed in Repair Procedure C.

Remove the receiver line (C) from the A/C condenser outlet. Then, swab inside the receiver line and A/C condenser outlet with a cotton swab.
If no metal, dark gray or black residue is found, go to step 6.
If metal, dark gray or black residue is found, go to step 5.
5.
Remove the A/C lines (D) from the expansion valve. Then, swab inside the expansion valve and the A/C lines with a cotton swab.
If no metal, dark gray or black residue is found, replace the components listed in Repair Procedure B.
If metal, dark gray or black residue is found, replace the components listed in Repair Procedure C.
6.
Remove the discharge hose from the A/C condenser inlet. Then, swab inside the discharge hose and A/C condenser inlet with a cotton swab.
If no metal, dark gray or black residue is found, replace the components listed in Repair Procedure A.
If metal, dark gray or black residue is found, replace the components listed in Repair Procedure B.
