Third Shaft - Exploded View
Exploded View
NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View as needed during the following procedure.
1.
Third Shaft - Disassemble
1.
Remove these parts in the following order:
-1.
Reverse gear (A)
-2.
Reverse selector (B)
-3.
35 x 41 x 32 mm needle bearing (C)
-4.
Reverse gear collar (D)
-5.
Sealing rings (E)
-6.
Snap ring (F)
-7.
4th clutch (G)
-8.
O-rings (H)
2.
Install a commercially available bearing separator (A) on the tapered part (B) of 6th gear (C).
3.
Place a spacer (D) between the third shaft (E) and a press to prevent damaging the third shaft.
4.
Remove these parts in the following order using the press:
-1.
Reverse selector hub (A)
-2.
6th gear (B)
-3.
37 x 42 x 25 mm needle bearings (C)
-4.
Snap ring (D)
-5.
Cotter retainer (E)
-6.
36 mm cotters (F)
-7.
4th gear washer (G)
-8.
49 x 66 x 3 mm thrust needle bearing (H)
-9.
4th gear (I)
-10.
45 x 50 x 25 mm needle bearing (J)
-11.
49 x 66 x 3 mm thrust needle bearing (K)
1.
Third Shaft - Inspect
1.
Inspect the bearings for galling and rough movement.
2.
Inspect the shaft bearing surfaces for scoring and excessive wear.
3.
Inspect the shaft splines for excessive wear and damage.
2.
Third Shaft 6th Gear Axial Clearance - Inspect
Inspect the third shaft 6th gear axial clearance

NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View as needed during the following procedure.
1.
Third Shaft - Reassemble
1.
Install these parts in the following order:
-1.
49 x 66 x 3 mm thrust needle bearing (A)
-2.
45 x 50 x 25 mm needle bearing (B)
-3.
4th gear (C)
-4.
49 x 66 x 3 mm thrust needle bearing (D)
-5.
4th gear washer (E)
NOTE: Install the 4th gear washer by aligning the fingers (F) with the grooves (G), and in the direction shown.
2.
Install these parts in the following order:
-1.
36 mm cotters (H)
-2.
Cotter retainer (I)
-3.
Snap ring (J)
-4.
37 x 42 x 25 mm needle bearings (K)
-5.
6th gear (L)
3.
Apply ATF to the shaft splines of the reverse selector hub contact area.
4.
Place the reverse selector hub (A) in the direction shown.
5.
Press the reverse selector hub into place using the 40 mm I.D. driver handle, the 30 mm I.D. bearing driver attachment, and a press.
6.
Install these parts in the following order:
-1.
Reverse gear collar (A)
-2.
35 x 41 x 32 mm needle bearing (B)
-3.
Reverse selector (C)
-4.
Reverse gear (D)
7.
Wrap the shaft splines with electrical tape to prevent O-ring damage.
8.
Install new O-rings (E).
NOTE: Lubricate the O-rings with ATF before installing them.
9.
Remove the electrical tape.
10.
Install these parts in the following order:
-1.
4th clutch (F)
-2.
35 mm snap ring (G)
-3.
New sealing rings (H)
