Torque Converter Housing Differential Carrier Bearing Outer Race Replacement

NOTE:
The carrier bearing and the carrier bearing outer race should be replaced as a set.
Replace the carrier bearing with a new one whenever the carrier bearing outer race is replaced.
Adjust the carrier bearing preload after replacing the carrier bearing and the carrier bearing outer race.
Coat all parts with transmission fluid during installation.

1. Carrier Bearing Outer Race - Remove
Remove the carrier bearing outer race (A), the 41 x 76.2 x 1 mm spacer (B), and the 76 mm thrust shim (C) by heating the torque converter housing to about 212 °F (100 °C) using a heat gun (D).

NOTE: Do not heat the transmission housing more than 212 °F (100 °C).


2. Carrier Bearing Outer Race - Install

Install the 76 mm thrust shim (A).

Install the 41 x 76.2 x 1 mm spacer (B) by aligning the tab (C) with the groove (D).
3.
Place the carrier bearing outer race (E).
4.
Drive the carrier bearing outer race securely using the 15 x 135L driver handle and the 72 x 75 mm bearing driver attachment so there is no clearance between the carrier bearing outer race, the 41 x 76.2 x 1 mm spacer, the 76 mm thrust shim, and the torque converter housing.
