B1836 Power Seat Position Sensor circuit short
 

NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.

1.
Problem verification:

Problem verification
?1.
Clear the DTCs with the HDS.


?2.
Press the engine start/stop button at least 20 times, then wait for at least 20 seconds.

?3.
Operate the power seat adjustment switch in all directions for more than 1 second each.

?4.
Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1836 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 2.
     
NO
     
     
     
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.?
2.
Shorted wire check (SVCC line):

Shorted wire check (SVCC line)
?1.
Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.
Disconnect the following connectors.

?3.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
OFF mode
Power seat control unit connector B (20P): disconnected
Slide motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Front up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Rear up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Recline motor/position sensor 5P connector: disconnected
Test circuit

Test point 1
Power seat control unit connector B (20P) No. 6 (PUR)
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short to ground in the wire.?
     
NO
     
     
     
The SVCC wire is not shorted. Go to step 3.

Motor check (Slide, Front up-down, Rear up-down, Recline):

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

OFF mode
Power seat control unit connector B (20P): disconnected
Slide motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Front up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Rear up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector: disconnected
Recline motor/position sensor 5P connector: disconnected

Faulty slide motor/position sensor; replace the seat frame assembly.?
     
Front up-down motor/position sensor is shorted
     
     
     
Faulty front up-down motor/position sensor; replace the seat frame assembly.?
     
Rear up-down motor/position sensor is shorted
     
     
     
Faulty rear up-down motor/position sensor; replace the seat frame assembly.?
     
Recline motor/position sensor is shorted
     
     
     
Faulty recline motor/position sensor; replace the seat frame assembly.?
     
NO
