VSA DTC Troubleshooting: 118-12

DTC 118-12: Clutch Pedal Position Switch B Stuck ON

NOTE:

	Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the how to troubleshoot the VSA system.
	If DTC 86-11 is indicated at the same time, do the DTC 86-11 troubleshooting first.

PGM-FI DTCs check:

?1.	Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

?2.

Check for PGM-FI DTCs with the HDS.

Are any DTCs indicated?


	YES

Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.?


	NO

Go to step 2.

PGM-FI system parameter check 1:

NOTE:It may take a minimum of five seconds for the parameter to change.

Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS while pressing the clutch pedal.

Does the parameter changes when the clutch is first pressed and then released?


	YES

Go to step 6.


	NO

Check the clutch pedal position switch B adjustment. If it is OK, go to step 3.

PGM-FI system parameter check 2:

PGM-FI system parameter check 2

?1.	Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.

Disconnect the following connector.

Clutch pedal position switch B 3P connector

?3.

Connect terminals 1 and 2 with a jumper wire.

Terminal 1	Clutch pedal position switch B 3P connector No. 1 (BLK)
Terminal 2	Clutch pedal position switch B 3P connector No. 2 (PNK)

?4.	Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

?5.

Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

Does it indicate CLOSE?


	YES

Replace the clutch pedal position switch B.?


	NO

Go to step 4.

Open wire check (GND line):

Open wire check (GND line)

?1.	Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.

Connect terminals 1 and 2 with a jumper wire.

Terminal 1	Clutch pedal position switch B 3P connector No. 2 (PNK)
Terminal 2	Body ground

?3.	Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

?4.

Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

Does it indicate CLOSE?


	YES

Repair an open in the wire between the clutch pedal position switch B and body ground (G401).?


	NO

The GND wire is OK, go to step 5.

Open wire check (CLUTCH SW (CRUISE) line):

Open wire check (CLUTCH SW (CRUISE) line)

?1.	Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.	Short the SCS line with the HDS.

?3.

Disconnect the following connector.

PCM connector A (51P)

?4.

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	IG LOCK (0) or OFF mode
	Clutch pedal position switch B 3P connector: disconnected
	PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
Test circuit	CLUTCH SW (CRUISE)
Test point 1	Clutch pedal position switch B 3P connector No. 2 (PNK)
Test point 2	L4 engine: PCM connector A (51P) No. 50 (PNK) V6 engine: PCM connector A (51P) No. 33 (PNK)

L4 engine

V6 engine

Is there continuity?


	YES

The CLUTCH SW (CRUISE) wire is OK. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then retest.


	NO

Repair an open in the wire between the PCM and the clutch pedal position switch B.?

NOTE:It may take a minimum of five seconds for the parameter to change.

Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS while pressing the clutch pedal.

Does the parameter changes when the clutch is first pressed and then released?


	YES

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting.?


	NO

Go to step 7.

VSA modulator-control unit check (update):

VSA modulator-control unit check (update)

NOTE:It may take a minimum of five seconds for the parameter to change.

?1.	Update the VSA modulator-control unit if it does not have the latest software.

?2.	Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

?3.

Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS while pressing the clutch pedal.

Does the parameter changes when the clutch is first pressed and then released?


	YES

Troubleshooting is complete.?


	NO

Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 21P connector. If the VSA modulator-control unit was updated and the symptom/indication is still present, replace the VSA modulator-control unit.?
