DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P281E
DTC P281E:Shift Solenoid Valve O/P (Pressure Control Solenoid "H") Control Circuit High

General Description

Transmission fluid pump volume changes by shift solenoid valve O/P ON/OFF control
Transmission fluid pump volume
Shift Solenoid Valve O/P
High
OFF
Low
ON

The shift solenoid valve O/P controls the drain circuit close/open commanded by the transmission control module (TCM) ON/OFF commands. The transmission fluid pump volume is changed by switching the shift solenoid valve O/P ON/OFF control. The TCM commands the driver circuit to turn on the shift solenoid valve O/P. The circuit diagnoses malfunctions such as a circuit short or open, and sends back a return signal during the TCM's command. When the return signal does not match the TCM command to turn OFF the shift solenoid valve O/P, the TCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
Shift solenoid valve O/P SOL C line open (includes connector loose connection or disconnection)
Shift solenoid valve O/P internal circuit open
TCM internal circuit failure

Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
1.
Start the engine.
2.
Shift the transmission to D position/mode while pressing the brake pedal, and wait for at least 30 seconds.
3.
Shift the transmission to P position/mode.
4.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
5.
Start the engine, and wait for at least 1 second.
With the HDS
None.

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the shift position indicator blinks and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the TCM memory. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
