DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0100
DTC P0100:Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor Circuit Malfunction

General Description

The mass airflow (MAF) sensor is attached to the intake air passage, and it measures the amount of intake airflow. The MAF sensor is a chip type airflow meter. The airflow cools the electrically heated chip that is mounted in the air passage. The powertrain control module (PCM) determines the amount of intake airflow by detecting the frequency. If the MAF sensor output frequency is a set value, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
MAF sensor FGP line short to ground
MAF sensor FGP line open
MAF sensor FGP line short to power
MAF sensor VCC line open
MAF sensor VCC line short to ground
MAF sensor SG line open
MAF sensor failure
PCM internal circuit failure

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
