DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0299
DTC P0299:Turbocharger Underboost Problem

General Description

The powertrain control module (PCM) controls the turbocharger control system to control boost pressure. When the difference between the target boost pressure and actual boost pressure is at a specified value for a predetermined time, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
The difference between the target boost pressure and actual boost pressure is 6 kPa (43.6 mmHg, 1.8 inHg) or more and the boost pressure is 53 - 239 kPa (400 - 1,796 mmHg, 15.7 - 70.7 inHg) or less* for at least 6.0 seconds.

*: Varies with driving conditions.

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes
Turbocharger wastegate control valve stuck open failure
Turbocharger bypass control valve open/close failure
Turbine damage or seizure
Exhaust pipe clogged
Air cleaner element clogged
Air tube between compressor and intercooler damage/leakage
Turbocharger boost sensor range/performance problem
BARO sensor range/performance problem

Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
1.
Start the engine. Hold the engine speed [ENGINE SPEED] at 3,000 rpm without load (CVT in P or N, M/T in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.
2.
Drive the vehicle at an engine speed [ENGINE SPEED] at 2,350 rpm*1 (3,000 rpm)*2 or more for at least 6 seconds*1 (7 seconds)*2.

*1: L15B7
*2: L15BA, L15BY
Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.
With the HDS
None.

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
