DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0230
DTC P0230:Fuel Pump Primary Circuit

General Description

The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the fuel pump control circuit for electrical malfunctions. The diagnosis is disabled under certain 12 volt battery voltage conditions. The described diagnosis will detect short circuits and open circuit. If the PGM-FI main relay 2 output voltage or current is a specified value, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Open circuit
The PGM-FI main relay 2 output voltage is between 3.26 - 4.7 V when the PGM-FI main relay 2 power stage is off.
Short circuit to power
The PGM-FI main relay 2 output current is 2 A or more when the PGM-FI main relay 2 power stage is on.
Short circuit to ground
The PGM-FI main relay 2 output voltage is 2.74 V or less when the PGM-FI main relay 2 power stage is off.

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
PGM-FI main relay 2 FUEL PUMP RLY CL- line short to power
PGM-FI main relay 2 FUEL PUMP RLY CL- line short to ground
PGM-FI main relay 2 FUEL PUMP RLY CL- line open
PCM internal circuit failure

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
