DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0101
DTC P0101:Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Problem

General Description

The mass airflow (MAF) sensor is mounted near the air cleaner case. It measures mass airflow rate into the combustion engine. The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the MAF sensor for range and rationality malfunctions. During range check, the MAF sensor signal will be monitored if it is within the physically possible operating range thresholds. During rationality check, the measured mass airflow will be compared with the modeled minimum and maximum plausible thresholds. If the MAF sensor deviates from the modeled mass airflow, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
Either of the conditions occurs:
The ratio between the maximum modeled mass airflow and measured mass airflow from the MAF sensor is less than 0.98.
The ratio between the minimum modeled mass airflow and measured mass airflow from the MAF sensor is greater than 1.03.

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
MAF sensor failure

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
