DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P134B
DTC P134B:Crankshaft Signal Diagnose

General Description

The powertrain control module (PCM) checks for crankshaft signal loss and crankshaft signal disturbances. It also performs a rationality check of the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor signal. If the following failures are detected, the PCM stores a DTC:
Loss of crankshaft signal
Noisy crankshaft signal
Pulse length of CKP sensor signal is out of tolerance
Engine stop position calculated from the CKP sensor signal deviates too much from the real engine position
Implausible reverse pulses detected since the PCM was switched on is too high

Check of signal pulse length
Implausible pulse length of the CKP sensor signal is detected at least 10 times.
Check of engine stop position
The engine stop position calculated from the CKP sensor signal deviates too much from the real engine position at least 10 times.
Check of implausible reverse rotation
Implausible reverse pulses are detected at least 10 times since the PCM was switched on.

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
CKP sensor loose connection or poor contact
Noise disturbance by starter
Noise disturbance during stop phase
Pulse plate defection
CKP sensor failure
PCM internal circuit failure

Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
Start the engine, and drive the vehicle at engine speed [Engine Speed] 4,000 rpm or more.
Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
