DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0046
DTC P0046:Turbocharger Wastegate Control Actuator Circuit Range/Performance Problem

General Description

The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the turbocharger wastegate control actuator, and checks the rationality of control deviation and control duty cycle range. In order to provide these tests, the actual wastegate position is continuously monitored against the commanded value. If the checked values are abnormal, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
Start the engine. Hold the engine speed [Engine Speed] at 3,000 rpm without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.

With the HDS

2.
Select the Electric Waste Gate in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
