DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0045
DTC P0045:Turbocharger Wastegate Control Actuator Circuit Malfunction

General Description

The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the turbocharger wastegate control actuator circuit for electrical malfunctions. The described circuit check will detect short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, and over temperature failures. If the turbocharger wastegate control actuator outputs an abnormal value, a DTC is stored.

Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR2 line short to ground
Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR2 line open
Turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR1 line short to turbocharger wastegate control actuator WGMTR2 line
PCM internal circuit failure

Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
Start the engine. Hold the engine speed [Engine Speed] at 3,000 rpm without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.

With the HDS
1.
Start the engine. Hold the engine speed [Engine Speed] at 3,000 rpm without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.
2.
Select the Electric Waste Gate in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
