Rocker Arm and Shaft Disassembly, Reassembly, and Inspection
1. Rocker Arm Assembly - Disassemble

NOTE:
Identify each part as it is removed so that each item can be reinstalled in its original location.
Inspect the rocker shafts and the rocker arms.
If reused, the rocker arms must be installed in their original locations.
When replacing the rocker arm assembly, remove the fastening hardware from a new rocker arm assembly.

2. All Disassembled Parts - Reassembly

Reassemble the parts in the reverse order of disassembly.

NOTE:
If reused, the rocker arms must be installed in their original locations.
Prior to reassembling, clean all the parts in solvent, dry them, and apply new engine oil to all contact points and the bearing surface.
When replacing the rocker arm assembly, remove the fastening hardware from the new rocker arm assembly.

1. Rocker Arm and Shaft - Inspect

Measure the diameter of the rocker shaft at the first rocker location.

Zero the gauge (A) to the rocker shaft diameter.





3.
Measure the inside diameter of the rocker arm, and check it for an out-of-round condition.

Rocker Arm-to-Shaft Clearance
Standard (New):
0.018?0.059 mm (0.00071?0.00232 in)
Service Limit:
0.080 mm (0.00315 in)


4.
Repeat for all rocker arms and both shafts. If the clearance is beyond the service limit, replace the rocker shaft and all out of service limit rocker arms.
