DTC Troubleshooting: B1038
DTC B1038: IMMOBILIZER F-CAN Authentication ID Not Received
NOTE:
If keyless access power control unit DTC U0073 is stored, troubleshoot DTC U0073 first.
If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.

Clear the DTCs with the HDS.


?2.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode and then the ON mode.

?3.
Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1038 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 2.
     
NO
     
     
     
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections at the body control module and the VSA modulator-control unit.?
2.
Gauge control module DTC check:

Gauge control module DTC check
?1.
Check for gauge control module DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC U0122 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 3.
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 4.
3.
Open wire check (F-CAN lines):

Open wire check (F-CAN lines)
?1.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.
Disconnect the following connectors.
Body control module connector B (36P)
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector

?3.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 respectively.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Body control module connector B (36P): disconnected
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
Body control module connector B (36P) No. 22
Test point 2
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 20


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
     
NO
     
     
     
An open or poor connection in the F-CAN_H and/or F-CAN_L wire between the body control module and the VSA modulator-control unit.?
4.
Open wire check (F-CAN lines):

Open wire check (F-CAN lines)
?1.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.
Disconnect the following connectors.
Body control module connector B (36P)
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector

?3.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 respectively.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Body control module connector B (36P): disconnected
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
Body control module connector B (36P) No. 22
Test point 2
VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector No. 20


Is there continuity?

An open or poor connection in the F-CAN_H and/or F-CAN_L wire between the body control module and the VSA modulator-control unit.?
