DTC P0013: VTC Oil Control Solenoid Valve B Malfunction
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information.

P0013 VTC Oil Control Solenoid Valve B Malfunction
   

1.
Problem verification:

Problem verification
?1.
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

?2.
Clear the DTC with the HDS.


?3.
Start the engine.

?4.
Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

?5.
Select the VTC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS, then select the EX-VTC.

  

?6.
Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0013 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
     
NO
     
     
     
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at VTC oil control solenoid valve B and the PCM. If the on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the on-board snapshot.?
2.
VTC oil control solenoid valve B internal resistance check:

VTC oil control solenoid valve B internal resistance check
?1.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.
Disconnect the following connector.
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector

?3.
At the VTC oil control solenoid valve B side, measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
 
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector (male terminals) No. 1 (solenoid valve side):
Test point 2
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector (male terminals) No. 2 (solenoid valve side):


Is there 7.01?7.75 ? at room temperature?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 3.
     
NO
     
     
     
3.
Open wire check (PG line):

Open wire check (PG line)
?1.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
 
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector (female terminals) No. 2:
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
The PG wire is OK. Go to step 4.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the PG wire between VTC oil control solenoid valve B and G101.?
4.
Shorted wire check (VTCEX line):

Shorted wire check (VTCEX line)
?1.
Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.


?2.
Disconnect the following connector.
PCM connector No. 1 (96P)

?3.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
 
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector: disconnected
 
PCM connector No. 1 (96P): disconnected
Test point 1
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short in the VTCEX wire between PCM connector No. 1 terminal No. 1 and VTC oil control solenoid valve B.?
     
NO
     
     
     
The VTCEX wire is not shorted. Go to step 5.
5.
Open wire check (VTCEX line):

Open wire check (VTCEX line)
?1.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
 
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector: disconnected
 
PCM connector No. 1 (96P): disconnected
Test point 1
VTC oil control solenoid valve B 2P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
Test point 2


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
The VTCEX wire is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If DTC P0013 goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM.?
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the VTCEX wire between PCM connector No. 1 terminal No.1 and VTC oil control solenoid valve B.?
