Driver cannot select reverse gear when vehicle speed is 9 mph (15 km/h) or less
NOTE:
Do not release the clutch pedal if you can select reverse gear while the wheels are driven forward.
Information marked with an asterisk (*1) applies to the L15BA/L15B7 engine, an asterisk (*2) applies to the K20C1 engine, and an asterisk (*3) applies to the K20C2 engine.

Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

Try to shift the transmission into reverse.
Can you shift the transmission into the reverse?
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

Reverse lockout solenoid check:

Is the reverse lockout solenoid OK?
The reverse lockout solenoid is OK. Check the change lever assembly, or inspect the internal transmission.?

Start the engine, and try to shift the transmission into reverse.
Can you shift the transmission into reverse?
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.?
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 4.

Shorted wire check (RVSLCK line*1*2 /RVS LCK*3 line):

Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.
SCS Short

Disconnect the following connector.
PCM connector No. 2 (58P)*2
PCM connector E (80P)*1*3

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
PCM connector No. 2 (58P)*2 : disconnected
PCM connector E (80P)*1*3 : disconnected
Reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
Reverse lockout solenoid 2P connector (female terminals) No. 2:
Test point 2
Body ground
Is there continuity?
Repair a short to ground in the RVSLCK wire*1*2 /RVS LCK*3 wire between the reverse lockout solenoid and the PCM.?
The RVSLCK wire
*1*2 /RVS LCK wire
*3 is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or
substitute a known-good PCM , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was substituted,
replace the original PCM .?
