MTF Inspection and Replacement
1. Filler Plug and Drain Plug - Exploded View

3. MTF - Check


1.
Remove the filler plug (A) and the 20 mm sealing washer (B).

2.
Check the condition of the MTF and make sure it is at the proper level (C).

NOTE: If the fluid is dirty, replace MTF.

3.
Install the filler plug with a new 20 mm sealing washer.

3. MTF - Replace



1.
Remove the filler plug (A) and the 20 mm sealing washer (B).

2.
Remove the drain plug (C) and the 14 mm sealing washer (D), and drain the MTF.

3.
Install the drain plug with a new 14 mm sealing washer.

4.
Refill the transmission with the MTF to the proper level (E). Always use Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF).

Fluid Capacity:
 
1.4 L (1.5 US qt) at fluid change
 
1.6 L (1.7 US qt) at overhaul

5.
Install the filler plug with a new 20 mm sealing washer.

5. HDS - Connect


1.
Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

2.
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

3.
Make sure the HDS communicates with vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

6. Maintenance Minder - Reset (With Maintenance Minder System)

If the Maintenance Minder required to replace the MTF, reset the Maintenance Minder with the gauge (see "Resetting the Maintenance Minder"). If the Maintenance Minder did not require to replace the MTF, reset the Maintenance Minder with the HDS (see "Resetting the Individual Maintenance Items").
