Audio remote switch does not work properly (audio unit buttons work)

NOTE:

	Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first.
	With color audio: If any button of the audio remote switch does not work, do the Knob Check in the System Diagnostic Mode.
	Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.

Problem verification:

?1.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

?2.	Turn on the audio system, and check the audio remote switch operation.

Is the audio system operation OK?


	YES

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.?


	NO

The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.

Audio remote switch check:

Audio remote switch check

?1.	Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.

Disconnect the following connector.

Audio remote switch 12P connector

?3.	Do the Audio Remote Switch Test.

Is the audio remote switch OK?


	YES

Go to step 3.


	NO

Replace the audio remote switch.?

Shorted wire check (AUDIO REMOTE SW line):

Shorted wire check (AUDIO REMOTE SW line)

Disconnect the following connector.

NOTE: Eject the disc before disconnecting the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD player's load mechanism.

Audio unit connector A (24P)

?2.

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
	Audio remote switch 12P connector: disconnected
	Audio unit connector A (24P): disconnected

With Color Audio

Test point 1	Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 9
Test point 2	Body ground

With Normal Audio

Test point 1	Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 22
Test point 2	Body ground

Is there continuity?


	YES

Repair a short to body ground in the wire. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel.?


	NO

The AUDIO REMOTE SW wire is not shorted to ground. Go to step 4.

Open wire check (REMOTE SW GND line):

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
	Audio remote switch 12P connector: disconnected
	Audio unit connector A (24P): disconnected

With Color Audio

Test point 1	Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 19
Test point 2	Audio remote switch 12P connector No. 5 (female terminals):

With Normal Audio

Test point 1	Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 11
Test point 2	Audio remote switch 12P connector No. 5 (female terminals):

Is there continuity?


	YES

The REMOTE SW GND wire is OK. Go to step 5.


	NO

Repair an open in the wire. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel.?

?1.	Reconnect the audio remote switch 12P connector.

Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 as specified in the table.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
	Audio unit connector A (24P): disconnected

With Color Audio

Test point 1	Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 9
Test point 2	Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 19

With Normal Audio

Test point 1	Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 11
Test point 2	Audio unit connector A (24P) No. 22

Button held down	VOL DOWN ( - )	VOL UP ( + )	LEFT	RIGHT	SOURCE	No button pressed
Resistance	About 99 ?	About 357 ?	About 775 ?	About 1.7 k?	About 3.7 k?	About 10 k?

Is the resistance OK?


	YES

Replace the audio unit.?


	NO

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel.?
