1. Knuckle/Hub Bearing Unit - Exploded View

Exploded View



NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View as needed during the following procedures.

Hub Bearing Unit

1. Vehicle - Lift


2. Rear Wheel - Remove


3. Parking Brake - Release

Release the parking brake lever fully.

4. Parking Brake Cable - Disconnect


1.
Remove the parking brake cable mounting bolt (A).

2.
Disconnect the parking brake cable (B) from the lever (C).

NOTE: Be careful not to bend or distort the cable and boot (D).

5. Brake Caliper - Remove


1.
Remove the brake hose mounting bolt (A).

2.
Remove the caliper assembly (B).

NOTE:
To prevent damage to the caliper assembly or brake hose, use a short piece of wire to hang the caliper assembly from the undercarriage.
Do not twist the brake hose excessively.

6. Rear Brake Disc - Remove


7. Hub Bearing Unit - Remove

Remove the hub bearing unit (A).

NOTE: Keep the wheel bearing/encoder away from any magnetic field. The encoder can be damaged or erased.


8. Hub Bearing Unit for Damage and Cracks - Check

Check the hub bearing unit for damage and cracks.

Knuckle

9. Splash Guard - Remove

Remove the splash guard (A).


10. Parking Brake Cable Mounting Bracket - Remove

Remove the parking brake cable mounting bracket (A).


11. Upper Arm Ball Joint - Disconnect


1.
Remove the lock pin (A).

2.
Remove the castle nut (B).

3.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the ball joint remover.

12. Wheel Speed Sensor - Remove

Remove the wheel speed sensor (A).

NOTE: Do not disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector.


13. Knuckle - Remove


1.
Remove the flange nut (A) while holding the joint pin (B) with a hex wrench (C).

2.
Disconnect the stabilizer link (D) from the knuckle and remove the brake hose bracket (E).





3.
Remove the damper lower mounting bolt (A).





4.
Remove the control arm mounting self-locking nut (A) and the washer (B).






5.
Remove the lower arm A mounting bolt (A).

6.
Remove the lower arm B mounting bolt (B).

7.
Remove the knuckle (C).


NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View as needed during the following procedures.

Knuckle

1. Knuckle - Install


1.
Install the knuckle (A).

2.
Loosely install the new lower arm A mounting bolt (B).

3.
Loosely install the new lower arm B mounting bolt (C).





4.
Loosely install the new control arm mounting self-locking nut (A) and the washer (B).





5.
Loosely install the new damper lower mounting bolt (A).






6.
Install the brake hose bracket (A) and connect the stabilizer link (B) to the knuckle.

7.
Install the new flange nut (C) while holding the joint pin (D) with a hex wrench (E).

2. Bolt and Nut - Tighten Under Vehicle’s Weight

1.
Load the suspension with the vehicle’s weight.

2.
Tighten all loosely installed mounting hardware to the specified torque.

3. Wheel Speed Sensor - Install

Install the wheel speed sensor (A).


4. Upper Arm Ball Joint - Connect

1.
Position a floor jack under the connecting point of the knuckle and lower arm A, and raise the suspension with the jack.






2.
Connect the upper arm ball joint to the knuckle.

3.
Install the new castle nut (A).

NOTE: Torque the castle nut to the lower torque specification, then tighten it only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin hole. Do not align the castle nut by loosening it.

4.
Install the lock pin (B) as shown.

5. Parking Brake Cable Mounting Bracket - Install

Install the parking brake cable mounting bracket (A).


6. Splash Guard - Install

Install the splash guard (A).


Hub Bearing Unit

7. Hub Bearing Unit - Install

Install the hub bearing unit (A).

NOTE: Keep the wheel bearing/encoder away from any magnetic field. The encoder can be damaged or erased.


8. Rear Brake Disc - Install


9. Brake Caliper - Install


1.
Install the caliper assembly (A).

2.
Install the brake hose mounting bolt (B).

10. Parking Brake Cable - Connect


1.
Connect the parking brake cable (A) to the lever (B).

NOTE: Be careful not to bend or distort the cable and boot (C).

2.
Install the parking brake cable mounting bolt (D).

11. Rear Wheel - Install
