Side Curtain Airbag Removal and Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

2-Door

1. Battery Terminal - Disconnect

Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Headliner - Remove


3. Side Curtain Airbag Inflator Connector - Disconnect

Pull up on both locking tabs (A) to disconnect the side curtain airbag inflator connector (B) on the left or right side wire harness.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the connector.


4. Side Curtain Airbag - Remove

Remove the side curtain airbag mounting bolts (A), the mounting bolts (B), the clips (C), and the hooks (D), then remove the side curtain airbag (E).


4-Door

1. Battery Terminal - Disconnect

Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Headliner - Remove


3. Side Curtain Airbag Inflator Connector - Disconnect

Pull up on both locking tabs (A) to disconnect the side curtain airbag inflator connector (B) on the left or right side wire harness.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the connector.


4. Side Curtain Airbag - Remove

Remove the side curtain airbag mounting bolts (A), the mounting bolts (B), the clips (C), and the hooks (D), then remove the side curtain airbag (E).

2-Door

1. Side Curtain Airbag - Install

NOTE:
If replacing the side curtain airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.
If the side curtain airbag is frayed, or has any other visible damage, replace it. Do not attempt to repair an airbag.
When you install the side curtain airbag, make sure it is not twisted, and that it is not caught between the inflator bracket by the bracket bolts.
Make sure that the side curtain airbag inflator retainer is installed properly. Otherwise the side curtain airbag could incorrectly deploy and cause damage or injuries.
If there is any damage to the side curtain airbag, do not try to repair it. Replace any damaged side curtain airbag.

Install the side curtain airbag (A) with the new side curtain airbag mounting bolts (B), the mounting bolts (C), the hooks (D), and the clips (E).


2. Side Curtain Airbag Inflator Connector - Connect

Connect the side curtain airbag inflator connector (A) on the left or right side wire harness to the airbag by aligning the guide tab (B) to the groove on the connector.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the connector.


3. Battery Terminal - Connect


4. DTC - Clear

Clear any DTCs with the HDS.

5. SRS Operation - Confirm

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

1. Side Curtain Airbag - Install

NOTE:
If replacing the side curtain airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

2. Side Curtain Airbag Inflator Connector - Connect

Connect the side curtain airbag inflator connector (A) on the left or right side wire harness to the airbag by aligning the guide tab (B) to the groove on the connector.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the connector.


3. Battery Terminal - Connect


4. DTC - Clear

Clear any DTCs with the HDS.

5. SRS Operation - Confirm

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
