Paddle Shifter + (Upshift Switch) Circuit Troubleshooting
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations as follows: 4-door model, 2-door model, and review the precautions and procedures, before doing repair or service.

1.
Problem verification:

Problem verification

Connect the HDS to the DLC (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

?3.
Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

?4.
Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS when repeatedly pressing and releasing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch).

The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

Determine possible failure area (PCM, others):

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

Disconnect the following connector.

?4.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Is there continuity when pressing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and no continuity when the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) is released?

Go to step 3.

Is there continuity when pressing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and no continuity when the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) is released?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 5.
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 4.

Disconnect the following connector.

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Cable reel connector C (20P): disconnected
 
Paddle shifter + (upshift switch) 4P connector: disconnected

Is there continuity when pressing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and no continuity when the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) is released?

     
YES
     
     
     
The paddle shifter + (upshift switch) is OK. Replace the cable reel subharness.?
     
NO
     
     
     
5.
Open wire check (GND line):

Is there continuity?

The GND wire is OK. Go to step 6.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the GND wire between cable reel connector A (20P) and body ground (G502), or repair poor body ground (G502).?

Shorted wire check (PADDLE SW UP line):

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Ignition switch LOCK (0), or OFF mode
 
Cable reel connector A (20P): disconnected
 
Cable reel connector C (20P): disconnected

Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 18 (LT GRN)

Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short to body ground in the PADDLE SW UP wire between cable reel connector A (20P) and the PCM.?
     
NO
     
     
     
The PADDLE SW UP wire is not shorted. Go to step 7.
7.
Determine possible failure area (PADDLE SW UP line, cable reel):

Determine possible failure area (PADDLE SW UP line, cable reel)
?1.
Reconnect PCM connector A (51P).

?2.
Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

?3.
Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

Ignition switch ON (II), or ON mode
 
Cable reel connector A (20P): disconnected
 
Cable reel connector C (20P): disconnected
Test circuit
GND, PADDLE SW UP
Test point 1
Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 1 (BRN)
Test point 2
Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 18 (LT GRN)


Is there battery voltage?

     
YES
     
     
     
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 8.

Open wire check (PADDLE SW UP line):

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.
Jump the SCS line with the HDS.


?3.
Disconnect the following connector.

?4.
Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 18 (LT GRN)
Terminal B
Body ground


?5.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Ignition switch LOCK (0), or OFF mode
 
Cable reel connector A (20P): disconnected
 
Cable reel connector C (20P): disconnected
 
PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
 
Cable reel connector A (20P) No. 18: jumped to body ground
Test circuit
PADDLE SW UP

PCM connector A (51P) No. 49 (LT GRN)

Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
The PADDLE SW UP wire is OK. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom goes away, replace the original PCM.?
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the PADDLE SW UP wire between cable reel connector A (20P) and the PCM.?
