Cable Reel Removal and Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE: Before doing this procedure, set the front wheels in the straight ahead position.

1. Battery Terminal - Disconnect

Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Driver's Airbag - Remove


3. Cable Reel Connector C - Disconnect

Disconnect cable reel connector C on the cable reel subharness from the cable reel.

2.
If equipped, remove the harness (A) and the following connectors from the holders to gain access to the steering wheel puller holes (B):

Paddle shifter ? (upshift switch) connector (D).
Paddle shifter ?(downshift switch) connector (E).

3.
Loosen the steering wheel bolt (F) three turns.

4. Steering Wheel - Remove

Remove the steering wheel puller, then remove the steering wheel.

NOTE: Remove the old sealant from the threads in the steering column shaft.

5. Column Cover - Remove


6. Cable Reel Connectors A, B, and Steering Angle Sensor Connector - Disconnect

Disconnect cable reel connectors A and B on the dashboard wire harness, and the steering angle sensor connector (C).


7. Cable Reel/Steering Angle Sensor - Remove

Remove the cable reel/steering angle sensor (A).


8. Cable Reel - Remove

Remove the cable reel (A) from the steering angle sensor (B).

NOTE:
Before installing the steering wheel, make sure the front wheels are aligned straight ahead.
New cable reel is locked by yellow tab for center adjustment. When installing a new cable reel there is no need to rotate the cable reel. You remove the tab and discard it, after install new cable reel.

1. Cable Reel - Install

Position the two tabs (A) of the steering angle sensor (B) as shown. Install the cable reel (C) to the steering angle sensor.


2. Cable Reel/Steering Angle Sensor - Install

Install the cable reel/steering angle sensor (A).


3. Cable Reel Connectors A, B, and Steering Angle Sensor Connector - Connect

Connect cable reel connectors A and B on the dashboard wire harness, and the steering angle sensor connector (C).


4. Column Cover - Install


5. Cable Reel - Align


1.
Make sure the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.

2.
Center the cable reel (A). Do this by first rotating the cable reel clockwise until it stops.

3.
Rotate the cable reel counterclockwise about three full turns. The arrow mark (B) on the cable reel label should point straight up.

6. Steering Wheel - Install


1.
Position the steering wheel hub (A) so that it engages the pin (B) of the cable reel.

2.
Install the steering wheel (C) on to the steering column shaft.

NOTE: Do not tap on the steering wheel or the steering column shaft when installing the steering wheel.

7. Cable Reel Connector C - Connect

Install the new steering wheel bolt (A).

2.
Connect cable reel connector C on the cable reel subharness to the cable reel.

3.
If equipped, install the harness (B) and the following connectors to the holders:

Paddle shifter ? (upshift switch) connector (D).
Paddle shifter ?(downshift switch) connector (E).

4.
Make sure the harness is routed and fastened properly.

8. Driver's Airbag - Install


9. Battery Terminal - Connect


10. DTC - Clear

Clear any DTCs with the HDS.

11. SRS Operation - Confirm

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

12. VSA Sensor Neutral Position - Memorize


13. Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position - Clear


14. TPMS - Calibrate
