DTC indicator 9: A Problem in the Recirculation Control Motor Circuit, Linkage, Door, or Motor

Problem verification:

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II).

Check for DTCs.

Is DTC 9 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 2.
     
NO
     
     
     
Intermittent failure. Check for loose wires or poor connections on the recirculation control motor circuit.?

Open wire check (F/R MTR (REC)/M-REC line):

Open wire check (F/R MTR (REC)/M-REC line)
?1.
Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

?2.
Disconnect the following connectors.

?3.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG LOCK (0)
HVAC control unit 32P connector: disconnected
Recirculation control motor 7P connector: disconnected
Test circuit
F/R MTR (REC)/M-REC
Test point 1
HVAC control unit 32P connector No. 10 (ORN)
Test point 2
Recirculation control motor 7P connector No. 7 (ORN)


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
The F/R MTR (REC)/M-REC wire is not open. Go to step 3.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the wire between the HVAC control unit and the recirculation control motor.?

Open wire check (F/R MTR (FRESH)/M-FRS line):

Open wire check (F/R MTR (FRESH)/M-FRS line)
?1.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG LOCK (0)
HVAC control unit 32P connector: disconnected
Recirculation control motor 7P connector: disconnected
Test circuit
F/R MTR (FRESH)/M-FRS
Test point 1
HVAC control unit 32P connector No. 9 (PUR)
Test point 2
Recirculation control motor 7P connector No. 6 (RED)


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
The F/R MTR (FRESH)/M-FRS wire is not open. Go to step 4.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the wire between the HVAC control unit and the recirculation control motor.?
4.
Shorted wire check (F/R MTR (REC)/M-REC line):

Shorted wire check (F/R MTR (REC)/M-REC line)
?1.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG LOCK (0)
HVAC control unit 32P connector: disconnected
Recirculation control motor 7P connector: disconnected
Test circuit
F/R MTR (REC)
Test point 1
HVAC control unit 32P connector No. 10 (ORN)
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the HVAC control unit and the recirculation control motor.?
     
NO
     
     
     
The F/R MTR (REC)/M-REC wire is OK. Go to step 5.
5.
Shorted wire check (F/R MTR (FRESH)/M-FRS line):

Shorted wire check (F/R MTR (FRESH)/M-FRS line)

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG LOCK (0)
HVAC control unit 32P connector: disconnected
Recirculation control motor 7P connector: disconnected
Test circuit
F/R MTR (FRESH)
Test point 1
HVAC control unit 32P connector No. 9 (PUR)
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the HVAC control unit and the recirculation control motor.?
     
NO
     
     
     
The F/R MTR (FRESH)/M-FRS wire is OK. Go to step 6.

Recirculation control motor check:

Recirculation control motor check

Is the recirculation control motor OK?

     
YES
     
     
     
     
NO
     
     
     
Replace the recirculation control motor, or repair the recirculation control linkage or door.?
