Center Pillar Outer Panel Replacement
1. Mass Production Body Welding Positions and Numbers - Remove

Outer Panel

Side Sill Reinforcement Complete and Center Pillar Stiffener

NOTE: When replacing the center pillar stiffener, cut the center pillar upper portion of the outer panel as shown.

2. Construction - Check

Outer Panel

NOTE:
This section explains the procedures after removal of all related parts. For the related parts' removal procedure, refer to the appropriate Service Manual.
The component replacement procedure described here is only for new Honda-supplied parts, as needed, according to the area and the degree of damage on the body.

If there is any damage to the center pillar outer panel, cut the outer panel at the [A] section, pry off the outer panel, and replace it.
Replace the front pillar outer separator, the center pillar outer separator and the rear wheel arch separator.
Check the center pillar stiffener position for damage. If necessary, replace it.
When replacing the center pillar stiffener, cut the outer panel at the [B] and [C] sections.

Side Sill Reinforcement Complete and Center Pillar Stiffener

Replace the front pillar lower stiffener, the side sill reinforcement, and the side sill reinforcement extension as an assembly.
Replace the front pillar inner separator and the center pillar inner separator.

NOTE:
Confirm the sheet thickness, tensile strength, and existence of the zinc treatment of both sides, and set the welder to conform to the welding conditions by referring to Front Body Construction, Roof and Side Panel Construction, and Floor and Rear Body Construction.

1. Body Dimensions - Check

Positioning the replacement parts.
Clamp or tack weld the new parts into position.

2. External Parts Fitting Positions - Check

Temporarily install the related parts, then check for differences in level and clearance. Check the external parts fitting positions. Make sure the body lines flow smoothly. Remove the clamped part.

3. Side Sill Reinforcement Complete - Install

1.
Remove the wheelhouse upper member extension (A) from the new side sill reinforcement complete (B).

2.
Install the new front pillar inner separator (A).
Apply the sealer (B) without a gap all the way around the separator and the front inner lower pillar (C).

3.
Clamp the side sill reinforcement complete (A) on the body.

4.
Install the center pillar inner separator (B).

5.
From the passenger's compartment, weld front pillar stiffener lower bulkhead A, B and the front inner lower pillar (C).

( )*: Welding positions with high-strength steel (except 1500 MPa) parts. Confirm the plug welding conditions.

6.
Do the main welding.
Weld the side sill reinforcement complete (A).

( )*: Welding positions with high-strength steel (except 1500 MPa) parts. Confirm the plug welding conditions.

(?)*: Welding positions with the front pillar upper stiffener (B) and the side sill reinforcement, the ultra high-strength steel (1500 MPa) part. Perform the spot welding on the conditions of No. 12, No. 13 and No. 14 in the table shown below. Confirm the spot welding specifications.

4. Center Pillar Stiffener - Install

1.
Clamp the center pillar stiffener (A), and tighten the mounting bolt.

2.
Weld the center pillar stiffener (A) to the roof side stiffener (B) and the center pillar stiffener lower (C) to the side sill reinforcement (D).

(?)*: Welding positions with the center pillar stiffener, the roof side stiffener and the side sill reinforcement, the ultra high-strength steel (1500 MPa) part. Perform the spot welding on the conditions of No. 14 in the table shown below. Confirm the spot welding specifications.

4.
From the passenger's compartment, insert the nozzle through the hole of the center inner pillar (A), and apply the sealer (B) without a gap between the center pillar stiffener lower (C) and the side sill reinforcement (D).

5. Outer Panel Repair Part (Side Sill Rear Portion) - Install

1.
Because the adhesive between the outer panel (A) and the rear inside panel (B) may burn when welding the outer panel, scrape out the sealer (C) between the outer panel and the rear inside panel with a pick tool (D).

2.
Grinding for better adhesive adherence:

Grind the wheel arch portion of the rear inside panel (A), the rear wheel arch reinforcement extension (B), and the outer panel repair part (C) with a belt sander using P80?P120 sand paper.
Air blow the grinding surfaces, then degrease with a wax and grease remover.

3.
Put the cartridge in a caulking gun, and run a continuous bead of the adhesive (A) on all ground surfaces of the rear inside panel (B), the rear wheel arch reinforcement extension (C), and the outer panel repair part (D).

NOTE: Use care to make sure the adhesive is not applied in areas that will be butt welded when the outer panel is installed.

Adhesive: 3M AUTO MIX Panel Bonding 8115, or equivalent, commercially available

NOTE: See the adhesive manufacturer's instructions for details.

4.
Even out the applied adhesive (A) with a spatula (B).

NOTE:
Use care to make sure the adhesive is not applied in areas that will be butt welded when the outer panel is installed.
Be careful not to entrap air in adhesive.

5.
Body side: Reapply the adhesive (A) on the rear inside panel (B) and the rear wheel arch reinforcement extension (C).

NOTE: Use care to make sure the adhesive is not applied in areas that will be butt welded when the outer panel is installed.

6.
Install the new rear wheel arch separator (A).
Apply the sealer (B) without a gap all the way around the separator.

7.
Clamp the outer panel repair part.

NOTE: Never touch the adhesive surfaces with your hands.

8.
Make a gap evenly with the rear inside panel (A) 1.5 mm (0.059 in) while pushing the wheel arch portion of the outer panel repair part (B).

NOTE: Use a commercially available adhesive remover to remove any excess adhesive.

9.
Weld the outer panel reused part (A).

10.
Apply the sealer (A) to the gap between the outer panel (B) and the rear inside panel (C) beside the butt welding area of the rear wheel arch.

11.
Drying adhesive.

NOTE: Do not move the body until the adhesive is dry.
