Thermostat Removal, Installation, and Test
NOTE:
How to read the torque specifications.
1.
Engine Coolant - Drain

Air Cleaner - Remove
3.
Intake Air Duct E - Remove
1.
Disconnect the connectors (A).
2.
Remove the harness clamps (B).
3.
USA and Canada models: Disconnect purge tube D.
4.
Remove intake air duct E.
NOTE:
Make sure the end of hose band is aligned with the mark on the hose band after intake air duct E is installed.

Thermostat - Remove
1.
CVT: Remove the harness clamp (A).
2.
Remove the thermostat cover (B).
3.
Remove the thermostat (C).
NOTE: Be sure to install the thermostat in the direction shown.
5.
All Removed Parts - Install
1.
Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE: Replace the thermostat if it is stuck in the open position at room temperature.

Thermostat - Test
To test a closed thermostat:
1.
Suspend the thermostat (A) in a container of water. Do not let the thermostat and the thermometer (B) touch the bottom of the hot container.
2.
Heat the water, and check the temperature with a thermometer. Check the temperature when the thermostat first opens, and when it is fully open.
3.
Measure the lift height of the thermostat when it is fully open.
Standard Thermostat
Lift Height:
Above 8.0 mm (0.315 in) min.
Starts Opening:
169?176 °F (76?80 °C)
Fully Open:
194 °F (90 °C)
