M/T: Disconnect the EGR valve connector (A), the front A/F sensor connector (B), the rocker arm oil control solenoid (Bank 2) connector (C), the front rocker arm oil pressure switch (Bank 2) connector (D).

A/T: Disconnect the EGR valve connector (A), the front A/F sensor connector (B), the rocker arm oil control solenoid A (Bank 2) connector (C), the front rocker arm oil pressure switch A (Bank 2) connector (D).
M/T: Disconnect the rear rocker arm oil pressure switch (Bank 1) connector (B) and the rocker arm oil control solenoid (Bank 1) connector (C).
3.
A/T: Disconnect the rear rocker arm oil pressure switch A/B (Bank 1) connectors (B) and the rocker arm oil control solenoid A/B (Bank 1) connectors (C).
4.
Remove the harness clamp (D).
5.
Remove the harness holder (E).
6.
Disconnect the breather hose (F).

Rear Cylinder Head Cover - Remove

Remove the rear cylinder head cover.
Front
1.
Head Cover Gasket - Install
1.
Check the spark plug seals for damage. If any seals are damaged, replace it.
2.
Thoroughly clean the head cover gasket (A) and the groove of the cylinder head cover (B).
NOTE: Check and if necessary, replace the head cover gasket.
3.
Install the head cover gasket in the groove of the cylinder head cover. Make sure the head cover gasket is seated securely.

Front Cylinder Head Cover - Install
1.
Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the front rocker arm oil control valve and the cylinder head.
2.
Clean the head cover contacting surfaces with a shop towel.
3.
Apply liquid gasket (P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0003, 08718-0004, or 08718-0009) to the rocker arm oil control valve mating surfaces (A). Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.
NOTE:
If you apply liquid gasket P/N 08718-0012, the component must be installed within 4 minutes.
If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply the new liquid gasket.
4.
Set the spark plug seals (A) on the spark plug tubes, and install the front cylinder head cover (B).
5.
Inspect the spark plug seals for damage.
6.
Tighten the bolts in three steps. In the final step torque the bolts, in sequence, 7 N·m (0.7 kgf·m, 5 lbf·ft).
NOTE:
Wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.
Do not run the engine for at least 3 hours after installing the cylinder head cover.
3.
Harness Holder - Install
1.
Install the harness holder (A).
2.
M/T: Connect the EGR valve connector (B), the front A/F sensor connector (C), the rocker arm oil control solenoid (Bank 2) connector (D), and the front rocker arm oil pressure switch (Bank 2) connector (E).
3.
A/T: Connect the EGR valve connector (B), the front A/F sensor connector (C), the rocker arm oil control solenoid A (Bank 2) connector (D), and the front rocker arm oil pressure switch A (Bank 2) connector (E).
4.
Install the harness clamp (F).
5.
Tighten the harness holder mounting bolts (G).
4.
Alternator Connector and Positive Alternator Cable - Connect
Check the spark plug seals for damage. If any seals are damaged, replace it.
2.
Thoroughly clean the head cover gasket (A) and the groove of the cylinder head cover (B).
NOTE: Check and if necessary, replace the head cover gasket.
3.
Install the head cover gasket in the groove of the cylinder head cover. Make sure the head cover gasket is seated securely.
