Move the knuckle (B) downward, and remove the knuckle from the damper.
3.
Pull the knuckle outward, and separate the outboard joint (C) from the front hub using a soft face hammer outward, then remove the knuckle/hub.
NOTE: Do not pull the driveshaft end outward. The inner driveshaft inboard joint may come apart.
11.
Front Knuckle Ring - Remove
Remove the front knuckle ring (A).
12.
Hub - Remove
1.
Separate the hub (A) from the knuckle (B) using the hub dis/assembly tool and a hydraulic press. Hold the knuckle with the attachment (C) of the hydraulic press or equivalent tool.
NOTE:
Be careful not to damage or deform the splash guard (D).
Hold onto the hub to keep it from falling when pressed clear.
2.
Press out the wheel bearing inner race (A) of the hub (B) using the hub dis/assembly tool, a commercially available bearing separator (C), and a hydraulic press.
13.
Splash Guard and Snap Ring - Remove
1.
Remove the splash guard (A).
2.
Remove the snap ring (B).
14.
Bearing - Remove
Press the wheel bearing (A) out of the knuckle (B) using the bearing driver attachment, the driver handle, and a hydraulic press.
15.
Bearing - Install
1.
Wash the knuckle and the hub thoroughly in high flash point solvent before reassembly.
2.
Press a new wheel bearing (A) into the knuckle (B) using the old bearing (C), a steel plate (D), the oil seal driver attachment, the support base, and a hydraulic press.
NOTE:
Install the wheel bearing with the wheel speed sensor magnetic encoder (E) (brown color) toward the inside of the knuckle.
Remove any oil, grease, dust, metal debris, and other foreign material from the encoder surface.
Keep any magnetic tools away from the encoder surface.
Keep the wheel bearing and magnetic encoder away from any magnetic field. The encoder can be damaged or erased.
Be careful not to damage the encoder surface when you insert the wheel bearing.
16.
Splash Guard and Snap Ring - Install
1.
Install the new snap ring (A).
2.
Install the splash guard (B).
17.
Hub - Install
Install the hub (A) onto the knuckle (B) using the attachment, the driver handle, the support base, and a hydraulic press.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the splash guard (C).
18.
Front Knuckle Ring - Install
Install the new front knuckle ring (A).
NOTE: When installing the front knuckle ring, position the knuckle ring notch portion (B) toward cut out (C) near the ball joint in the knuckle, and align the center of the knuckle ring notch portion with the center of the knuckle as shown.
19.
Knuckle/Hub Assembly - Install
1.
Apply about 5 g (0.18 oz) of moly 60 paste (P/N 08734-0001) to the contact area (A) of the outboard joint and the front wheel bearing.
2.
Install the knuckle/hub (B). Install the aligning tab (C) on the damper unit into the slot (D) of the knuckle.
3.
Loosely install the damper pinch bolt (E).
20.
Knuckle Ball Joint - Connect
1.
Connect the knuckle ball joint to the lower arm.
2.
Install the new castle nut (A).
NOTE: Torque the castle nut to the lower torque specification, then tighten it only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin hole. Do not align the castle nut by loosening it.
3.
Install the lock pin (B) as shown.
21.
Bolt and Nut - Tighten Under Vehicle’s Weight
1.
Load the suspension with the vehicle’s weight.
2.
Tighten all loosely installed mounting hardware to the specified torque.
22.
Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Connect
1.
Connect the tie-rod end ball joint to the knuckle.
