Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Pillar Areas

NOTE:
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations, 2-door, 4-door and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.
If side airbags and/or side curtain airbags have deployed, the affected pillar area trim and attachment clips must be replaced. Refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment.

A-Pillar Trim

1. A-Pillar Trim - Remove


1.
Remove the front door opening seal (A) as needed.

2.
Pull out the A-pillar trim (B).





3.
Put a shop towel (A) in the opening between the A-pillar trim (B) and the dashboard to prevent dropping the A-pillar clips.





4.
Remove the A-pillar trim (A).

NOTE: The upper clip (B) will stay in the body.





5.
Remove the upper clip (A) from the body.

B-Pillar Upper Trim (2-Door)

1. Front Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt - Remove


2. Rear Side Trim Panel - Remove


3. B-Pillar Upper Trim - Remove


1.
Remove the front door opening seal (A) as needed.

2.
Remove the B-pillar upper trim (B).






3.
Remove the B-pillar upper trim cap (A).

4.
Pass the front seat belt lower anchor (B) out through the hole, then remove the B-pillar upper trim (C).

B-Pillar Upper/Lower Trim (4-Door)

1. Front Door Sill Trim - Remove


2. Rear Door Sill Trim - Remove


3. B-Pillar Lower Trim - Remove

Remove the B-pillar lower trim (A).


4. Front Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt - Remove


5. B-Pillar Upper Trim - Remove


1.
Remove the front door opening seal (A) and the rear door opening seal (B) as needed.

2.
Remove the B-pillar upper trim (C).





3.
Pass the front seat belt lower anchor (A) out through the hole in the slider (B), then remove the B-pillar upper trim (C).

Quarter Pillar Trim (2-Door)

1. Quarter Pillar Trim - Remove

1.
Lower the coat hanger hook (A), then remove the screw (B).





2.
Remove the cap (A) and the clip (B).





3.
Remove the quarter pillar trim (A).

C-Pillar Trim (4-Door)

1. Rear Seat Side Bolster - Remove


2. C-Pillar Trim - Remove


1.
Remove rear door opening seal (A) as needed.

2.
Remove the C-pillar trim (B).

A-Pillar Trim

1. A-Pillar Trim - Check

1.
If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the A-pillar trim (A) and all clips on the trim with new parts.

2.
If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the A-pillar trim and note the following items:

To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the A-pillar trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:

?
Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitened areas in the A-pillar trim
?
Any cracks or stress-whitening in the clip seating surfaces (B)

If the clips (C) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.

2. Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap - Check


3. A-Pillar Trim - Install

1.
Carefully install a new upper clip (A).





2.
Install the A-pillar trim (A).

NOTE:
Make sure the side curtain airbag is not tucked under the clips or the trim ribs.
Do not push too hard on the A-pillar trim. If you push too hard, the clip will be damaged, and it will not hold the trim properly.
Gently tug on the A-pillar trim to verify that all clips are securely fastened.

4. Front Door Opening Seal - Install


B-Pillar Upper Trim (2-Door)

1. B-Pillar Upper Trim - Check

1.
If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the B-pillar upper trim (A) with a new one.

2.
If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the B-pillar upper trim and note the following items:

To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the B-pillar upper trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:

?
Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitening in the B-pillar upper trim
?
Any cracks or stress-whitening in the clip seating surfaces (B)

If the clips (C) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.

2. Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap - Check


3. B-Pillar Upper Trim - Install


1.
Pass the front seat belt lower anchor (A) in through the hole.

2.
Install the B-pillar upper trim cap (B).






3.
Install the B-pillar upper trim (A).

4.
Install the front door opening seal (B).

4. Rear Side Trim Panel - Install


5. Front Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt - Install


B-Pillar Upper/Lower Trim (4-Door)

1. B-Pillar Upper/Lower Trim - Check


1.
If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the B-pillar upper trim (A), the B-pillar lower trim (B) on the trim with new parts.

2.
If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the B-pillar upper/lower trim and note the following items:

To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:

?
Any cracks or deformations in the B-pillar upper trim or the upper hook (C), or any stress-whitened areas in the upper part of the trim
?
Any cracks or deformations in the B-pillar lower trim, or any breakages in the hooks (D) fitted with the B-pillar upper trim
?
Any cracks or stress-whitening areas in the clip seating surfaces (E)

If the clips (F) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
Make sure the pin (G) on the front seat belt shoulder anchor adjuster (H) and the hole (I) on the back of the slider are engaged when installing the B-pillar upper trim.

2. Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap - Check


3. B-Pillar Upper Trim - Install

1.
Pass the front seat belt lower anchor (A) in through the hole in the slider (B).






2.
Install the B-pillar upper trim (A).

3.
Install the front door opening seal (B) and the rear door opening seal (C).

4. Front Seat Belt Lower Anchor Bolt - Install


5. B-Pillar Lower Trim - Install

Install the B-pillar lower trim (A).


6. Rear Door Sill Trim - Install


7. Front Door Sill Trim - Install


Quarter Pillar Trim (2-Door)

1. Quarter Pillar Trim - Install

1.
If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the quarter pillar trim and note the following items:

To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the quarter pillar trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:

?
Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitening in the quarter pillar trim
?
Any cracks or stress-whitening in the clip seating surfaces (B)

If the clips (C) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.





2.
Install the quarter pillar trim (A).





3.
Install the clip (A) and the cap (B).





4.
Install the screw (A).

2. Headliner/Pillar Trim Overlap - Check


C-Pillar Trim (4-Door)

1. C-Pillar Trim - Check

1.
If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the C-pillar trim (A) with a new one.

2.
If the side curtain airbag has not deployed, check the C-pillar trim and note the following items:

To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the C-pillar trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:

?
Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitening in the C-pillar trim
?
Any cracks or stress-whitening in the clip seating surfaces (B)

If the clips (C) are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.

3. C-Pillar Trim - Install


1.
Install the C-pillar trim (A).

2.
Install rear door opening seal (B).

4. Rear Seat Side Bolster - Install
