Heater Unit/Core Removal and Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

1. Battery Terminal - Disconnect


3. A/C Lines - Remove


4. Engine Coolant - Drain

When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant.

5. Heater Hose (HVAC Unit Side) - Disconnect


NOTE:
Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on the electrical parts or the painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.
Note the layout of the hoses.

Disconnect the outlet heater hose (A).

2.
Disconnect the inlet heater hose (B).

6. Dashboard - Remove


7. Blower-Heater Unit - Remove

1.
Remove the mounting nut (A). Take care not to damage or bend the fuel lines or the brake lines.





2.
Disconnect the engine compartment wire harness connector (A).





3.
With rear ventilation: Remove the clip (A) and the rear center vent duct (B).





4.
Remove the rear heater joint duct A.






5.
Remove the drain hose (A).

6.
Remove the blower-heater unit (B).

8. Passenger's Heater Duct - Remove


1.
Remove the harness clips (A).

2.
Remove the passenger's heater duct (B).

9. A/C Wire Harness - Remove


1.
Disconnect the air mix control motor connector (A).

2.
Remove the connector clip (B).

3.
Remove the harness clips (C).






4.
Disconnect the mode control motor connector (A).

5.
Disconnect the evaporator temperature sensor connector (B).

6.
Remove the harness clip (C).






7.
With climate control: Disconnect the passenger's air mix control motor connector (A).

8.
Disconnect the power transistor connector (B).






9.
Disconnect the blower motor connector (A).

10.
Remove the harness clip (B).






11.
Disconnect the recirculation control motor connector (A).

12.
Remove the harness clip (B) and the A/C wire harness (C).

10. Blower Unit - Remove

Remove the blower unit (A).


11. Heater Core - Remove


1.
Remove the heater pipe bracket (A).

2.
Remove the grommet (B).





3.
Remove the heater pipe cover (A).





4.
With climate control: Remove the passenger's air mix control motor (A).





5.
Remove the evaporator core cover (A).





6.
Remove the heater core (A).

NOTE:
Do not interchange the inlet and outlet heater hoses, and install the hose clamps securely.
Make sure that there is no coolant leakage.
Make sure that there is no air leakage.
Make sure that there is no refrigerant leakage.

1. Heater Core - Install

1.
Install the heater core (A).





2.
Install the evaporator core cover (A) and the new seal (B).





3.
With climate control: Install the passenger's air mix control motor (A).





4.
Install the heater pipe cover (A).






5.
Install the heater pipe bracket (A).

6.
Install the grommet (B).

2. Blower Unit - Install

Install the blower unit (A).


3. A/C Wire Harness - Install


1.
Connect the recirculation control motor connector (A).

2.
Install the harness clip (B) and the A/C wire harness (C).






3.
Connect the blower motor connector (A).

4.
Install the harness clip (B).






5.
Connect the power transistor connector (A).

6.
With climate control: Connect the passenger's air mix control motor connector (B).






7.
Connect the evaporator temperature sensor connector (A).

8.
Connect the mode control motor connector (B).

9.
Install the harness clip (C).






10.
Install the harness clips (A).

11.
Install the connector clip (B).

12.
Connect the air mix control motor connector (C).

4. Passenger's Heater Duct - Install


1.
Install the passenger's heater duct (A).

2.
Install the harness clips (B).

5. Blower-Heater Unit - Install


1.
Install the blower-heater unit (A).

2.
Install the drain hose (B).





3.
Install the rear heater joint duct A.





4.
With rear ventilation: Install the rear center vent duct (A) and the clip (B).





5.
Connect the engine compartment wire harness connector (A).





6.
Install the mounting nut (A). Take care not to damage or bend the fuel lines or the brake lines.
