Front Passenger's Airbag Removal and Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE: If replacing the front passenger's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

Removal Before the Front Passenger's Airbag Deployment

1. Battery Terminal - Disconnect

Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Glove Box - Remove


3. Front Passenger's Airbag Inflator Connector - Disconnect

Disconnect the front passenger's airbag inflator connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.

2.
Remove the mounting bolts (B) and the mounting nuts (C).

4. Front Passenger's Airbag - Remove


1.
Release the hooks (A) of the hook plate (B), then remove the hook plate.

2.
Release the hooks (C) of the front passenger's airbag (D), then remove front passenger's airbag.

NOTE:
Take care not to damage the front passenger's airbag housing holes (E) of the dashboard.
Take care not to damage the front passenger's airbag.

Removal After the Front Passenger's Airbag Deployment

1. Battery Terminal - Disconnect

Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Glove Box - Remove


3. Front Passenger's Airbag Inflator Connector - Disconnect

Disconnect the front passenger's airbag inflator connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.

2.
Remove the mounting bolts (B).

4. Front Passenger's Airbag/Dashboard - Remove

Installation Before the Front Passenger's Airbag Deployment

1. Front Passenger's Airbag - Install

Insert the hooks (A) of the front passenger's airbag (B) into the housing holes (C), then insert the hooks (D) of the hook plate (E) into the housing holes (F).

NOTE:
Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the dashboard.
Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the dashboard is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
Make sure the hooks are set properly.

2. Front Passenger's Airbag Inflator Connector - Connect

Tighten the new mounting bolts (A) and the mounting nuts (B).

2.
Connect the front passenger's airbag inflator connector (C) on the dashboard wire harness.

3. Battery Terminal - Connect


4. DTC - Clear

Clear any DTCs with the HDS.

5. SRS Operation - Confirm

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

6. Glove box - Install


Installation After the Front Passenger's Airbag Deployment

1. Front Passenger's Airbag - Install


NOTE: If the hook plate (A) is secured to the front passenger's airbag (B), remove the hook plate from the front passenger's airbag.

Insert the hooks (C) of the front passenger's airbag into the housing holes, then insert the hooks (D) of the hook plate into the housing holes.

2.
Loosely install the mounting nuts (E).

NOTE:
Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the dashboard.
Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the dashboard is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
Make sure the hooks are set properly.

2. Front Passenger's Airbag/Dashboard - Install


3. Front Passenger's Airbag Inflator Connector - Connect


1.
Tighten the new mounting bolts (A) and the mounting nuts (B).

2.
Connect the front passenger's airbag inflator connector (C) on the dashboard wire harness.

4. Battery Terminal - Connect


5. DTC - Clear

Clear any DTCs with the HDS.

6. SRS Operation - Confirm

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
