Driver's Airbag Removal and Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE: If replacing the driver's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

1. Battery Terminal - Disconnect

Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Driver's Airbag - Remove

Remove the TORX bolts (A) using a TORX T30 bit.

Pull up on both locking tabs (A) to disconnect the driver's airbag inflator connectors (B) on the cable reel harness.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the connectors.

Disconnect the horn switch connector (C).

4.
Remove the driver's airbag (D).

1. Driver's Airbag - Install


NOTE: If you are replacing a deployed driver's airbag, inspect the cable reel for heat damage. If there is any damage, replace the cable reel.

Connect the driver's airbag inflator connectors (A) on the cable reel harness to the airbag by aligning the guide tab (B) to the groove on the connectors.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the connectors.

Connect the horn switch connector (C).

NOTE: After connecting the negative cable to the battery, make sure the horn works properly.

Place the driver's airbag (D) in the steering wheel.






4.
Tighten the new TORX bolts (A), using a TORX T30 bit.

NOTE: Make sure the clearance (B) between the steering wheel and horn pad is the specified value.

2. Battery Terminal - Connect


3. DTC - Clear

Clear any DTCs with the HDS.

4. SRS Operation - Confirm

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
