DTC Troubleshooting: P0011
DTC P0011: VTC System Malfunction
NOTE:
Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information.
If DTC P0010 and/or P0341 are stored at the same time as DTC P0011, troubleshoot those DTCs first, then recheck for DTC P0011.

Oil pressure check:

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

Start the engine.

Watch the low oil pressure indicator in the gauge with the engine running.

Is the low oil pressure indicator on?

     
YES
     
     
     
Check the engine oil level. If the level is OK, check the engine oil pressure, then do the repair verification.
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 2.

Select the VTC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

  

Is the result OK?

     
YES
     
     
     
The failure is not duplicated. Go to step 3.
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 5.

Test-drive at a steady speed between 19?37 mph (30?60 km/h) for 10 minutes.

Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0011 with the HDS.

Does the HDS indicate FAILED?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 5.
     
NO
     
     
     
If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the VTC oil control solenoid valve and the PCM. If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 2 and recheck.
5.
VTC strainer check:

VTC strainer check

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.
Remove the auto-tensioner, then remove the VTC strainer.

?3.
Check the VTC strainer for clogging.


Is the strainer OK?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 6.
     
NO

VTC oil control solenoid valve check:

VTC actuator check:

YES
     
     
     
Check the VTC system oil passages, and clean them if needed, then do the repair verification.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair verification (OBD STATUS check):

Select the VTC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

Does the HDS indicate PASSED, FAILED, or NOT COMPLETED?

     
PASSED
     
     
     
Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.?
     
FAILED
     
     
     
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the VTC oil control solenoid valve and the PCM, then go to step 2, and recheck.
     
NOT COMPLETED
     
     
     
Meet the test condition, and check the OBD STATUS again.
