DTC Troubleshooting: P1009
DTC P1009: VTC Advance Malfunction
NOTE:
Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information.
If DTC P0341 is stored at the same time as DTC P1009, troubleshoot DTC P1009 first, then recheck for DTC P0341.
If DTC P1009 set after replacing the VTC actuator, verify that the correct timing marks on the crank pulley were used. .

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

Start the engine.

Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P1009 indicated?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 2.
     
NO
     
     
     
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.?

VTC strainer visual check:

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

Remove the VTC strainer (A), and check it for clogging.


Is the strainer OK?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 3.
     
NO

VTC oil control valve operation check:

Is the VTC oil control solenoid valve OK?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 4.
     
NO

VTC actuator check:

Is the actuator OK?

     
YES
     
     
     
Check the VTC system oil passages and clean them if needed, then do the repair verification.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair verification (OBD STATUS check):

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

Select the VTC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1009 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the HDS indicate PASSED, FAILED, or NOT COMPLETED?

     
PASSED
     
     
     
Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.?
     
FAILED
     
     
     
Go to step 1 and recheck.
     
NOT COMPLETED
     
     
     
Retest and check the OBD STATUS again.
