EPS system check:

EPS system check

Start the engine.

?2.
Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

Does the DATA LIST reading match the tachometer indicated reading?

     
YES
     
     
     
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.?
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 2.
2.
PCM check:

PCM check
?1.
Disconnect the following connector.

?2.
Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

?3.
Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG ON (II) or ON mode
 
EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
Test circuit
NEP
Test point 1
EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 6 (PUR)
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there battery voltage?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 5.
     
NO
     
     
     
Go to step 3.
3.
Shorted wire check (NEP line):

Shorted wire check (NEP line)
?1.
Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.
Short the SCS line with the HDS.


?3.
Disconnect the following connector.

?4.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG LOCK (0) or OFF mode
 
EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
 
PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
Test circuit
NEP
Test point 1
EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 6 (PUR)
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the EPS control unit and the PCM.?
     
NO
     
     
     
The NEP wire is not shorted. Go to step 4.
4.
Open wire check (NEP line):

Open wire check (NEP line)
?1.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG LOCK (0) or OFF mode
 
EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
 
PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
Test circuit
NEP
Test point 1
EPS control unit connector A (11P) No. 6 (PUR)
Test point 2
L4 engine: PCM connector A (51P) No. 26 (PUR)
V6 engine: PCM connector A (51P) No. 40 (PUR)
L4 engine

Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
The NEP wire is OK. Go to step 5.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the PCM.?
5.
EPS control unit check (update):

EPS control unit check (update)
?1.
Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.
Reconnect the following connectors.

?3.
Update the EPS control unit if it does not have the latest software.

?4.
Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?5.
Check for DTCs with the HDS.

YES
     
     
     
     
NO
