HandsFreeLink System Symptom Troubleshooting - HFL switch does not work
HFL switch does not work (without touch screen)
NOTE:
The HFL volume affects both the prompts and the incoming calls. For example, if you turn down the volume during an incoming call, you also turn down the volume on the HFL prompts. Customer may turn down the volume because a call is loud, not realizing they turned down the HFL prompt volume.
Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.

Determine possible failure area (HFL switch circuit, others):

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

Turn on the audio unit, and using the audio remote switch buttons, check if the audio system operates properly.

Is the audio system operation OK?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 2.
     
NO

Determine possible failure area (HFL switch, others):

Determine possible failure area (HFL switch, others)

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

Is the switch OK?

     
YES
     
     
     
Go to step 3.
     
NO

Shorted wire check (HFT/NAVI REMOTE SW line to power):

Shorted wire check (HFT/NAVI REMOTE SW line to power)

Disconnect the following connector.

?2.

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.

?4.
Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG ON (II) or ON mode
 
Audio unit connector C (16P): disconnected
 
HFL switch 6P connector: disconnected
Test circuit
HFT/NAVI REMOTE SW
Test point 1
Audio unit connector C (16P) No. 9 (LT BLU)
Test point 2
Body ground


Is there any voltage?

     
YES
     
     
     
Repair a short to power in the wire between the audio unit and the HFL switch. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel.?
     
NO
     
     
     
The HFT/NAVI REMOTE SW wire is not shorted to power. Go to step 4.
4.
Open wire check (HFT/NAVI REMOTE SW line):

Open wire check (HFT/NAVI REMOTE SW line)

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

?2.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG LOCK (0) or OFF mode
 
Audio unit connector C (16P): disconnected
 
HFL switch 6P connector: disconnected
Test circuit
HFT/NAVI REMOTE SW
Test point 1
Audio unit connector C (16P) No. 9 (LT BLU)
Test point 2
HFL switch 6P connector No. 3 (PUR)


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
The HFT/NAVI REMOTE SW wire is OK. Go to step 5.
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the HFL switch. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel.?
5.
Open wire check (REMOTE SW GND line):

Open wire check (REMOTE SW GND line)
?1.
Disconnect the following connector.

?2.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
IG ON (II) or ON mode
 
Audio unit connector C (16P): disconnected
 
HFL switch 6P connector: disconnected
 
Audio remote switch 12P connector: disconnected
Test circuit
REMOTE SW GND
Test point 1
HFL switch 6P connector No. 4 (BRN)
Test point 2
Audio remote switch 12P connector No. 4 (BRN)


Is there continuity?

     
YES
     
     
     
     
NO
     
     
     
Repair an open in the wire between the audio remote switch and the HFL switch.?
