Audio remote switch does not work properly (audio-navigation unit buttons work)

NOTE:

	Check the vehicle battery condition first.
	Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.

Problem verification:

?1.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

?2.	Turn on the audio-navigation unit, and using the audio remote switch buttons, check if the audio system operates properly.

Is the audio-navigation unit operation OK?


	YES

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.?


	NO

The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.

Determine possible failure area (audio remote switch, others):

Determine possible failure area (audio remote switch, others)

?1.	Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.	Do the Audio Remote Switch Test.

Is the audio remote switch OK?


	YES

Go to step 3.


	NO

Replace the audio remote switch.?

Shorted wire check (AUDIO REMOTE SW, DISPAY SW line):

Shorted wire check (AUDIO REMOTE SW, DISPAY SW line)

Disconnect the following connector.

NOTE: Eject the disc before disconnecting the audio-navigation unit to prevent damaging the CD player load mechanism.

Audio-navigation unit connector A (24P)

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
	Audio remote switch 12P connector: disconnected
	Audio-navigation unit connector A (24P): : disconnected

Test point 1	Audio-navigation unit connector A (24P) No. 22
Test point 2	Body ground

Test point 1	Audio-navigation unit connector A (24P) No. 23
Test point 2	Body ground

Is there continuity?


	YES

Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the audio unit and the audio remote switch. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel.?


	NO

The AUDIO REMOTE SW and the DISPLAY SW wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 4.

Disconnect the following connector.

Audio-navigation unit connector A (24P)

Reconnect the audio remote switch 12P connector, and measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 as specified in the table.

Test point 2	Audio-navigation unit connector A (24P) No. 22

Resistance	About 99 ?	About 357 ?	About 775 ?	About 1.7 k?	About 3.7 k?	About 10 k?

Is the resistance OK?


	YES

Go to step 5.


	NO

Repair an open or a short in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit, the cable reel, and the audio remote switch. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel.?

Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 as specified in the table.

Is the resistance OK?


	YES

Replace the audio-navigation unit.?


	NO

Repair an open or a short in the wire between the audio-navigation unit, the cable reel, and the audio remote switch. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel.?
