1.
Problem verification:

Problem verification
?1.
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

?2.
Clear the DTC with the HDS.

?3.
Test-drive under following conditions:
DTC
Test-drive condition
P281D
-1.
Start the engine.
-2.
Shift the transmission to D position/mode while pressing the brake pedal, and wait for at least 30 seconds.
P281E
-1.
Start the engine.
-2.
Shift the transmission to D position/mode while pressing the brake pedal, and wait for at least 30 seconds.
-3.
Shift the transmission to P position/mode.
-4.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-5.
Start the engine, and wait for at least 1 second.

?4.
Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P281D or P281E indicated?

YES

The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

NO

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections and loose terminals between the shift solenoid valve O/P and the TCM. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.?
2.
Determine possible failure area (TCM, short in SOL C line, open in SOL C/SHC+ line):

Determine possible failure area (TCM, short in SOL C line, open in SOL C/SHC+ line)
?1.
Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.
Disconnect the following connector.
TCM 50P connector

?3.
Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode

TCM 50P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
Test point 2
Body ground

Is there 10.6?13.5 ??

10.6?13.5 ?

Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good TCM, then recheck. If this DTC goes away and the TCM was substituted, replace the original TCM.?

Less than 10.6 ?

Go to step 3.

More than 13.5 ?

Go to step 4.
3.
Shorted wire check (SOL C line):

Shorted wire check (SOL C line)
?1.
Disconnect the following connector.
Shift solenoid valve O/P 2P connector

?2.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode

Shift solenoid valve O/P 2P connector: disconnected

TCM 50P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
Test point 2
Body ground

Is there continuity?

YES

Repair a short to ground in the SOL C wire between the shift solenoid valve O/P and the TCM.?

NO

The SOL C wire is OK. Replace the shift solenoid valve O/P.?
4.
Open wire check (SOL C/SHC+ line):

Open wire check (SOL C/SHC+ line)
?1.
Disconnect the following connector.
Shift solenoid valve O/P 2P connector

?2.
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition
Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Shift solenoid valve O/P 2P connector: disconnected
TCM 50P connector: disconnected
Test point 1
Shift solenoid valve O/P 2P connector No. 1
Test point 2

Is there continuity?

YES

The SOL C/SHC+ wire is OK. Replace the shift solenoid valve O/P.?

NO

Repair an open in the SOL C/SHC+ wire between the shift solenoid valve O/P and the TCM.?
