Side Airbag Removal and Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:
If replacing the side airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.
When troubleshooting, do not remove the front seat. Disconnect only the side airbag inflator connector from under the front seat.

1. Battery Terminal - Disconnect

Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Front Seat - Remove


4. Side Airbag Harness - Remove

Remove the clips (A) and the harness holders (B).


7. Side Airbag - Remove (2-door)


1.
With lumbar support: Remove the harness (A) from the clip.

2.
Without lumbar support: Remove the clip (B).

3.
Remove the mounting nuts (C), then remove the side airbag (D).

8. Side Airbag - Remove (4-door)

Remove the clip (A).

2.
Remove the mounting nuts (B), then remove the side airbag (C).

1. Side Airbag - Install (2-door)


NOTE:
If the side airbag lid is secured with tape, remove the tape.
Do not open the lid on the side airbag cover.
Make sure that the seat-back cover/pad is installed properly. Improper installation may prevent proper deployment.
Be sure to install the harness so that they are not pinched or interfering with other parts.

Install the side airbag (A) with the new mounting nuts (B).

2.
With lumbar support: Install the harness (C) to the clip.

3.
Without lumbar support: Install the clip (D).

2. Side Airbag - Install (4-door)


NOTE:
If the side airbag lid is secured with tape, remove the tape.
Do not open the lid on the side airbag cover.
Make sure that the seat-back cover/pad is installed properly. Improper installation may prevent proper deployment.
Be sure to install the harness so that they are not pinched or interfering with other parts.

Install the side airbag (A) with the new mounting nuts (B).

Install the clip (C).

Install the clips (A) and the harness holders (B).

8. Battery Terminal - Connect


9. Seat Operation - Confirm

Move the front seat and the seat-back through their full ranges of movement, making sure the harness are not pinched or interfering with other parts.

10. DTC - Clear

Clear any DTCs with the HDS.

11. SRS Operation - Confirm

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
