1. Transmission Assembly Mounting Bolt - Exploded View

Exploded View




NOTE:
Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
Special tool Reds engine support hanger AAR-T1256 must be used with the side engine mount installed.

5. Vehicle - Lift Down



NOTE: Hold the steering wheel with the steering wheel holder tool.

12. Resonator Tube - Remove


15. Transmission Fluid Warmer - Remove


1.
Remove the transmission fluid warmer (A) with the O-rings (B).

NOTE: The transmission fluid warmer is aluminum part. Be careful not to damage the transmission fluid warmer.

2.
Put plastic bag over the transmission fluid warmer, then swing it out of the way.






3.
Remove the transmission fluid warmer strainer (A) with the O-ring (B).

4.
Clean the transmission fluid warmer strainer if necessary. Replace the transmission fluid warmer strainer, if it is clogged or damaged.

NOTE:
Do not use compressed air to clean the transmission fluid warmer strainer.
Soak the transmission fluid warmer strainer thoroughly in transmission fluid.

16. Shift Cable (Transmission Side) - Remove


1.
Remove the spring clip (A) and the control pin (B).

2.
Remove the shift cable bracket (C) and the shift cable end (D).

NOTE: Do not bend the shift cable excessively.

17. Engine Wire Harness - Remove


1.
Remove the harness cover (A).






2.
Disconnect the connectors (A).





3.
Remove the harness cover (A) and the harness clamp (B).

19. Engine Support Hanger - Install

1.
Attach the universal lifting eyelet to the cylinder head with about a 60 mm (2.36 in) spacer (A).






2.
Install the engine support hanger as shown.

NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield.

3.
Attach the hook (A) to the slotted hole in the universal lifting eyelet.

4.
Tighten the wing nut (B) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission.

20. Upper Transmission Assembly Mounting Bolt - Remove

NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View as needed during this procedure.

21. Transmission Mount - Remove


1.
Remove the ground cable (A).

2.
Remove the transmission mount (B).

22. Vehicle - Lift Up


23. Connector - Disconnect




1.
Disconnect the connectors (A).

NOTE: To prevent damage, cover the solenoid wire harness connector (B) using a shop towel.

2.
Remove the harness clamp (C).

28. Torque Converter Cover - Remove


29. Torque Converter Bolt - Remove

NOTE: There are eight torque converter bolts.


30. Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Remove


31. Front Subframe Bracket Bolt - Remove


32. Front Subframe - Remove

1.
Support the front subframe with a transmission jack (A).






2.
Remove the front subframe (A) carefully.

3.
Support the transmission with the transmission jack.

33. Torque Rod Bracket - Remove


34. Heat Shield - Remove



NOTE: Secure both driveshafts to the body with nylon straps.

36. Lower Transmission Assembly Mounting Bolt - Remove

NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View as needed during this procedure.

37. Transmission - Remove

1.
Check once again that the transmission is free of hoses and electrical wiring.

2.
Lower the transmission by loosening the wing nut of the engine support hanger, and tilt the engine just enough for the transmission to clear its end from the side frame.

3.
Slide the transmission away from the engine, then remove the transmission from the vehicle.

NOTE: Be careful not to drop the torque converter.

38. Dowel Pin - Remove


39. Torque Converter - Remove

1.
Remove the torque converter (A) with the O-ring (B).

40. Drive Plate - Inspect

1.
Inspect the drive plate, and replace it if it is damaged.


NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.

1. Torque Converter - Install

1.
Install the torque converter (A) with a new O-ring (B).

NOTE: Make sure the torque converter is fully engaged on the input shaft, the stator shaft, and the transmission fluid pump drive gear. Failure to do so will result in severe transmission or engine damage.

3. Transmission - Install

Place the transmission on a transmission jack, then raise it to the engine level.

3.
Attach the transmission to the engine.

4. Lower Transmission Assembly Mounting Bolt - Install

NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View as needed during this procedure.

6. Heat Shield - Install


7. Torque Rod Bracket - Install


8. Front Subframe - Install

1.
Support the front subframe with a transmission jack (A).






2.
Raise the front subframe (A) up to the body.

3.
Loosely install the front subframe using the appropriate bolts.


5.
Remove the transmission jack.

9. Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Install


10. Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Loosen

1.
Loosen the torque rod mounting bolt (A).

11. Torque Converter Bolt - Install

NOTE: There are eight torque converter bolts.


12. Torque Converter Cover - Install


16. Connector - Connect




1.
Connect the connectors (A).

2.
Install the harness clamp (B).

17. Vehicle - Lift Down


18. Transmission Mount - Install


1.
Install the transmission mount (A) to the body with new bolts (B).

2.
Loosely install new transmission mount bracket mounting nuts (C).

3.
Install the ground cable (D).

19. Upper Transmission Assembly Mounting Bolt - Install

NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View as needed during this procedure.

20. Engine Support Hanger - Remove


21. Universal Lifting Eyelet - Remove


23. Side Engine Mount Mounting Nut - Loosen


24. Side Engine Mount Mounting Nut - Tighten


25. Transmission Mount Mounting Nut - Tighten

1.
Tighten the transmission mount mounting nuts (A).

26. Vehicle - Lift Up


27. Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Tighten

1.
Tighten the torque rod mounting bolt (A).

28. Vehicle - Lift Down


29. Engine Wire Harness - Install

1.
Install the harness cover (A) and the harness clamp (B).






2.
Connect the connectors (A).






3.
Install the harness covers (A).

30. Shift Cable (Transmission Side) - Install


1.
Apply molybdenum grease to the inner surface of the hole (A) in the shift cable end (B).

2.
Install the shift cable bracket (C) while installing the shift cable end to the control lever (D).

NOTE: Do not bend the shift cable excessively.

3.
Install the control pin (E).

4.
Insert the lock pin (F) in the direction shown through the control pin hole and out the opening (G) of the control lever so that the hooked end (H) of the lock pin locks into the control pin hole.

32. Transmission Fluid Warmer - Install

1.
Install the transmission fluid warmer strainer (A) with a new O-ring (B).





2.
Install the transmission fluid warmer (A) with new O-rings (B).

NOTE: The transmission fluid warmer is aluminum part. Be careful not to damage the transmission fluid warmer.

35. Resonator Tube - Install


43. Transmission - After Install Check

1.
Make sure all four wheels to rotate freely.

2.
Start the engine.

NOTE: Check that the engine starts in P or N position/mode, and does not start in any other positions/modes.

3.
Check the shift lever operation.

4.
Move the shift lever through all positions/modes, and verify the transmission range switch matches with the A/T gear position indicator.

5.
Make sure the vehicle is turned to the OFF (LOCK) mode with the shift lever is in P position/mode. If it does not, adjust the shift cable.
