NOTE:
Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
Special tool engine support hanger AAR-T1256 must be used with the side engine mount installed.

1. Vehicle - Lift Set


2. Front Tower Bar - Remove


3. Engine Cover - Remove


4. Splash Separator - Remove

Remove the splash separator (A).


5. Front Bumper Upper Air Duct - Remove


6. Battery - Remove


7. Air Cleaner - Remove


8. Battery Base - Remove


1.
Loosen the bolts (A).

2.
Remove the battery base (B).

9. Steering Joint - Remove


NOTE: Hold the steering wheel with the steering wheel holder tool.

10. Starter - Remove


1.
Disconnect the positive starter cable (A) and the S terminal connector (B).

2.
Remove the harness clamp (C).

3.
Remove the starter (D) with the gasket (E).

11. Engine Wire Harness Connector (A/T Upper Side) - Disconnect


1.
Disconnect these connectors:

Shift solenoid valve A connector (A)
Shift solenoid valve B connector (B)
Shift solenoid valve C connector (C)
Line pressure solenoid valve A connector (D)

2.
Remove the harness cover (E).






3.
Disconnect these connectors:

A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector (A)
A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve B connector (B)
A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (C)
A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve D connector (D)
Transmission fluid pressure switch B (3rd clutch) connector (E)
Transmission fluid pressure switch E (6th clutch) connector (F)
Line pressure switch connector (G)
Transmission range switch connector (H)

4.
Remove the harness cover (I).





5.
Disconnect the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (A) and the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (B).





6.
Remove the harness clamps (A).





7.
Disconnect the transmission fluid pressure switch A (2nd clutch) connector (A) and the transmission fluid pressure switch D (5th clutch) connector (B).

12. Harness Clamp Bracket - Remove

1.
Remove the harness clamp bracket (A).





2.
Remove the harness clamp bracket (A).





3.
Remove the harness clamp (A).






4.
Remove the harness holder clamps (A).

5.
Remove the harness holder bracket (B).

13. ATF Warmer - Remove

1.
Disconnect the ATF hoses (A).

NOTE: Turn the ends of the ATF hoses up to prevent ATF from flowing out, then plug the hoses and the pipes.





2.
Remove the ATF warmer (A) without disconnecting the water bypass hoses.

14. Shift Cable (A/T Side) - Remove


NOTE: Do not bend the shift cable excessively.

1.
Remove the spring clip (A) and the control pin (B).

2.
Remove the shift cable end (C).

3.
Check the bushing (D) in the shift cable end for proper fit and wear. If the bushing is loose or worn, replace the shift cable.





4.
Remove the shift cable bracket (A).

15. Harness/Connector Bracket - Remove

1.
Remove the connector bracket (A); use the bracket bolt hole (B) to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm.





2.
Remove the harness bracket (A); use the bracket bolt hole (B) to attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm.

16. Engine Support Hanger - Install


1.
Remove the front damper caps.

2.
Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (B) and a 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (C). Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, then install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033). Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm to the rear cylinder head with a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (D) and an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (E).

3.
Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (F) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission.

NOTE:
Be careful when working around the windshield.
AAR-T1256 two sets required for stacking additional cross section bars.
Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead.

17. Upper Transmission Assembly Mounting Bolt - Remove

Remove the upper transmission assembly mounting bolts (A).


18. Front Engine Mount Mounting Bolt - Remove


1.
Remove the front engine mount stop (A).

2.
Remove the front engine mount mounting bolt (B).

19. Rear Engine Mount Mounting Bolt - Remove


1.
Remove the rear engine mount stop (A).

2.
Remove the rear engine mount mounting bolt (B).

20. Upper Transmission Mount Assembly - Remove

Remove the upper transmission mount assembly (A).

NOTE: Do not remove the bolt (B). If the bolt is removed, the upper transmission mount must be replaced as an assembly.


21. Vehicle - Lift Up

Raise the vehicle.

22. Front Wheel - Remove


23. Engine Undercover - Remove


24. Under-Floor TWC/Exhaust Pipe A - Remove


25. ATF - Drain


1.
Remove the drain plug (A).

2.
Drain the ATF.

3.
Reinstall the drain plug using a new sealing washer (B).

26. Engine Wire Harness Connector (A/T Lower Side) - Disconnect


1.
Disconnect the ATF temperature sensor connector (A).

2.
Remove the harness clamp (B).






3.
Disconnect the transmission fluid pressure switch C (4th clutch) connector (A).

4.
Remove the harness clamp (B).

27. Front Engine Mount Actuator Subharness Connector - Disconnect

Disconnect the front engine mount actuator subharness connector (A).


28. EPS Connector/Rear Engine Mount Actuator Subharness Connector - Disconnect


1.
Disconnect the EPS motor connector (A) by pushing the lock (B), and pulling down the lever (C).

2.
Disconnect the EPS harness connector (D).






3.
Disconnect the torque sensor connector (A).

4.
Disconnect the rear engine mount actuator subharness connector (B).

5.
Remove the harness clamp (C).

29. Torque Converter Cover - Remove

Remove the torque converter cover (A).


30. Torque Converter Bolt - Remove

Remove eight torque converter bolts (A).


31. Knuckle Ball Joint - Disconnect


32. Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Disconnect


33. Lower Stabilizer Link Ball Joint - Disconnect


34. Transmission Ground Cable Bracket - Remove

Remove the transmission ground cable bracket (A).


35. Lower Transmission Mount Bracket Mounting Bolt - Remove

Remove the lower transmission mount bracket mounting bolts (A).


36. Front Subframe - Remove

1.
Loosen the front subframe middle mount rubber mounting bolts (A) on both sides.






2.
Attach the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) by looping the strap (A) over the front of the front subframe, then secure the strap with the stop (B), and tighten the wing nut (C).

3.
Raise a transmission jack and line up the slots in the arms with the bolt holes on the corner of the jack base, then tighten the bolts.






4.
Remove the front subframe (A) with the front stiffeners (B) and the rear stiffeners (C).

5.
Lower the front subframe carefully.

37. Transmission - Support

Support the transmission with the transmission jack.

38. Driveshaft Inboard Joint - Disconnect


2.
Secure the driveshaft to the body with a nylon strap on both sides.

39. Intermediate Shaft - Remove


40. CKP Sensor Connector - Disconnect


1.
Remove the CKP sensor cover (A).

2.
Disconnect the CKP sensor connector (B).

41. Front Engine Mount Bracket - Remove

Remove the front engine mount bracket (A).


42. Lower Transmission Assembly Mounting Bolt - Remove

Front side

Rear side
Remove the lower transmission assembly mounting bolts (A).


43. Transmission - Remove

1.
Check once again that the transmission is free of hoses and electrical wiring.

2.
Lower the transmission by loosening the wing nut of the engine support hanger, and tilt the engine just enough for the transmission to clear its end from the side frame.

3.
Slide the transmission away from the engine to remove it from the vehicle.

44. Dowel Pin - Remove

Remove the 14 x 20 mm dowel pin (A) and the 10 x 20 mm dowel pin (B).


45. Torque Converter - Remove

Remove the torque converter (A) with the O-ring (B).


46. Drive Plate - Inspect

Inspect the drive plate, and replace it if it is damaged.


NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.

1. Torque Converter - Install

Install the torque converter (A) using a new O-ring (B).

NOTE: Make sure the torque converter is fully engaged on the mainshaft, the stator shaft, and the ATF pump drive gear. Failure to do so will result in severe transmission or engine damage.


2. Dowel Pin - Install

Install the 14 x 20 mm dowel pin (A) and the 10 x 20 mm dowel pin (B).


3. Transmission - Install

1.
Place the transmission on a transmission jack, and raise it to engine level.

2.
Attach the transmission to the engine.

4. Lower Transmission Assembly Mounting Bolt - Install

Front side

Rear side
Install the lower transmission assembly mounting bolts (A).


5. Front Engine Mount Bracket - Install

Install the front engine mount bracket (A) using new bolts (B).


6. CKP Sensor Connector - Connect


1.
Connect the CKP sensor connector (A).

2.
Install the CKP sensor cover (B).

7. Intermediate Shaft - Install


8. Driveshaft Inboard Joint - Connect


9. Front Subframe - Install


1.
Attach the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) by looping the strap (A) over the front of the front subframe, then secure the strap with the stop (B), and tighten the wing nut (C).

2.
Raise a transmission jack and line up the slots in the arms with the bolt holes on the corner of the jack base, then tighten the bolts.






3.
Raise the front subframe (A) up to the body.

4.
Loosely install the front subframe with the front stiffeners (B) and the rear stiffeners (C) using appropriate bolts.


6.
Remove the transmission jack and the subframe adapter.





7.
Tighten the front subframe middle mount rubber mounting bolts (A) on both sides.

10. Lower Transmission Mount Bracket Mounting Bolt - Loosely Install


1.
Loosen the lower transmission mount mounting nuts (A).

2.
Loosely install new lower transmission mount bracket mounting bolts (B).

11. Transmission Ground Cable Bracket - Install

Install the transmission ground cable bracket (A).


12. Lower Stabilizer Link Ball Joint - Connect


13. Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Connect


14. Knuckle Ball Joint - Connect


15. Torque Converter Bolt - Install

Install eight torque converter bolts (A).


16. Torque Converter Cover - Install

Install the torque converter cover (A).


17. EPS Connector/Rear Engine Mount Actuator Subharness Connector - Connect


1.
Connect the EPS motor connector (A), and pull up the lever (B), then confirm the connector is fully seated.

2.
Connect the EPS harness connector (C).






3.
Connect the torque sensor connector (A).

4.
Connect the rear engine mount actuator subharness connector (B).

5.
Install the harness clamp (C).

18. Front Engine Mount Actuator Subharness Connector - Connect

Connect the front engine mount actuator subharness connector (A).


19. Engine Wire Harness Connector (A/T Lower Side) - Connect


1.
Connect the ATF temperature sensor connector (A).

2.
Install the harness clamp (B).






3.
Connect the transmission fluid pressure switch C (4th clutch) connector (A).

4.
Install the harness clamp (B).

20. Under-Floor TWC/Exhaust Pipe A - Install


21. Engine Undercover - Install


22. Vehicle - Lift Down

Lower the vehicle.

23. Upper Transmission Mount Assembly - Install


1.
Install the upper transmission mount assembly (A) using new bolts (B) to the body.

2.
Loosely install new transmission mount bracket mounting bolts (C) in the numbered sequence shown.

24. Upper Transmission Assembly Mounting Bolt - Install

Install new upper transmission assembly mounting bolts (A).


25. Engine Support Hanger - Remove

1.
Remove the engine support hanger, the 2008 V6 attachment arm, and the engine balance bar.

2.
Install the front damper caps.

26. Engine Mount/Transmission Mount - Position

1.
Loosen the side engine mount mounting bolt (A).






2.
Install a new rear engine mount mounting bolt (A).

3.
Install the rear engine mount stop (B) using new nuts (C).






4.
Install a new front engine mount mounting bolt (A).

5.
Install the front engine mount stop (B) using new nuts (C).






6.
Tighten the lower transmission mount mounting nuts (A).

7.
Tighten the lower transmission mount bracket mounting bolts (B).





8.
Tighten the transmission mount bracket mounting bolts (A) in the numbered sequence shown.





9.
Tighten the side engine mount mounting bolt (A).

27. Harness/Connector Bracket - Install

1.
Install the connector bracket (A).





2.
Install the harness bracket (A).

28. Shift Cable (A/T Side) - Install

1.
Install the shift cable bracket (A).






2.
Apply molybdenum grease to the hole in the bushing (A) in the shift cable end (B).

3.
Install the shift cable end.

4.
Install the control pin (C), and secure the control pin with the spring clip (D).

29. ATF Warmer - Install

1.
Install the ATF warmer (A).






2.
Connect the ATF hoses (A).


30. Harness Clamp Bracket - Install


1.
Install the harness holder bracket (A).

2.
Install the harness holder clamps (B).





3.
Install the harness clamp (A).





4.
Install the harness clamp bracket (A).





5.
Install the harness clamp bracket (A).

31. Engine Wire Harness Connector (A/T Upper Side) - Connect

1.
Connect the transmission fluid pressure switch A (2nd clutch) connector (A) and the transmission fluid pressure switch D (5th clutch) connector (B).





2.
Install the harness clamps (A).





3.
Connect the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (A) and the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (B).






4.
Install the harness cover (A).

5.
Connect these connectors:

A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector (B)
A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve B connector (C)
A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (D)
A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve D connector (E)
Transmission fluid pressure switch B (3rd clutch) connector (F)
Transmission fluid pressure switch E (6th clutch) connector (G)
Line pressure switch connector (H)
Transmission range switch connector (I)






6.
Install the harness cover (A).

7.
Connect these connectors:

Shift solenoid valve A connector (B)
Shift solenoid valve B connector (C)
Shift solenoid valve C connector (D)
Line pressure solenoid valve A connector (E)

32. Starter - Install


1.
Install the starter (A) using a new gasket (B).

2.
Connect the S terminal connector (C) and the positive starter cable (D).

NOTE: Make sure the crimped side of the ring terminal faces away from the starter when you connect it.

3.
Install the harness clamp (E).

35. Battery Base - Install

Install the battery base (A).


36. Air Cleaner - Install


38. Front Bumper Upper Air Duct - Install


39. Splash Separator - Install

Install the splash separator (A).


40. Engine Cover - Install


41. Front Tower Bar - Install


42. Front Wheel - Install


43. Transmission - After Install Check

1.
Set the parking brake.

2.
Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

3.
Shift the transmission through all positions three times, and check the following:

Shift lever operation
A/T gear position indicator operation
Shift cable adjustment

4.
Turn the engine off, and check the ATF level.
