DTC B0001-2B: Short to Another Wire Harness in the Driver's Airbag First Inflator

NOTE:

	Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components of the correct part number and were properly installed.
	Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures, General Troubleshooting Information, and 12 Volt Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection.
	Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software, and retest.

?1.	Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

?2.	Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.

?3.

Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B0001-2B indicated?


	YES

The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.


	NO

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.?

Check for DTCs with the HDS.

B0011-2B Short to another wire harness in the front passenger's airbag second inflator
B0001-2B Short to another wire harness in the driver's airbag first inflator

Is DTC B0010-2B or B0011-2B indicated with DTC B0001-2B?


	YES

Go to step 3.


	NO

Go to step 4.

Shorted wire check (LA1 lines to another line):

?1.	Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.	Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

?3.

Disconnect the following connector.

SRS unit connector A (39P)

?4.

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Test condition	SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
Test point 1	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 9
Test point 2	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 8

Test point 1	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 5
Test point 2	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 4

Test point 1	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 6
Test point 2	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 7

Is there continuity?


	YES

Short to another wire in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness, then clear the DTC.?


	NO

The LA1 wires are OK. Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector A (39P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection; if the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit. If the DTC does not clear, replace the dashboard wire harness.?

?1.	Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

?2.	Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 bolt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

?3.

Disconnect the following connector.

SRS unit connector A (39P)

?4.

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
Test condition	SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
Test point 1	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 9
Test point 2	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 10

Test point 1	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 8
Test point 2	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 11

Is there continuity?


	YES

Go to step 5.


	NO

The LA1?, LA1?, LA2?, and LA2? wires are OK. Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector A (39P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection; if the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit. If the DTC does not clear, replace the dashboard wire harness.?

?1.	Remove the driver's airbag.

?2.

Disconnect the following connector.

Driver's airbag first inflator 2P connector (on the cable reel harness)

?3.

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
	SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
	Driver's airbag inflator 2P connector (LA1, LA2 lines) (on the cable reel harness): disconnected
Test point 1	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 9
Test point 2	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 10

Test point 1	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 8
Test point 2	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 11

Is there continuity?


	YES

Go to step 6.


	NO

The LA1?, LA1?, LA2?, and LA2? wires are OK. Faulty driver's airbag first inflator; replace the driver's airbag, then clear the DTC.?

?1.	Remove the column covers.

?2.	Disconnect cable reel connector B (4P) on the dashboard wire harness.

?3.

Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

	SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
	Driver's airbag inflator 2P connector (LA1, LA2 lines) (on the cable reel harness): disconnected
	Cable reel connector B (4P) (on the dashboard wire harness): disconnected
Test point 1	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 9
Test point 2	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 10

Test point 1	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 8
Test point 2	SRS unit connector A (39P) No. 11

Is there continuity?


	YES

Short to another wire in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness, then clear the DTC.?


	NO

The LA1?, LA1?, LA2?, and LA2? wires are OK. Short to another wire in the cable reel; replace the cable reel, then clear the DTC.?
