Manual Transmission Removal and Installation

NOTE:
Special tool engine support hanger AAR-T1256 must be used with the side engine mount installed.
Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.

5. Slave Cylinder - Remove


1.
Remove the clutch line bracket (A) and the clutch line clamp (B).

2.
Remove the slave cylinder (C).

3.
Carefully move the slave cylinder out of the way to avoid bending the clutch line.

NOTE:
Do not press the clutch pedal after the slave cylinder has been moved.
Do not disconnect the clutch line joints.

6. Harness Holder - Remove



1.
Disconnect the connectors (A).

2.
Remove the harness clamp bracket (B).

3.
Remove the harness clamp (C).





4.
Remove the harness holder (A).

7. Change Wire Bracket - Remove


1.
Remove the lock pins (A).

2.
Remove the change wire bracket bolts (B).

3.
Disconnect the change wire from the change lever assembly (C).

4.
Carefully remove the change wire and the change wire bracket (D) together to avoid bending the change wire.

NOTE: Do not wipe off the grease of the change wire ends (E).

8. PCM with Bracket - Remove


10. Universal Lifting Eyelet - Install


11. Engine Support Hanger - Install


1.
Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown.

2.
Attach the hook to the slotted hole in the universal lifting eyelet.

3.
Tighten the wing nut (A) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission.

NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield.

12. Upper Transmission Mounting Bolt - Remove



NOTE: Hold the steering wheel with the steering wheel holder tool.

22. Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Remove


23. Front Subframe - Remove


1.
Support the front subframe with a transmission jack (A).


24. Transmission - Support

1.
Support the transmission with a wood block and the transmission jack.

25. Driveshaft Heat Shield - Remove



NOTE: Secure the driveshaft to the body with a nylon strap on both sides.

27. Clutch Case Cover - Remove


28. Torque Rod Bracket - Remove


29. Transmission - Remove


1.
Remove the lower transmission mounting bolts (A).

2.
Pull the transmission away from the engine until the transmission mainshaft clears the clutch pressure plate.

3.
Slowly lower the transmission about 150 mm (5.91 in).

4.
Check once again that all hoses and harness are disconnected and free from the transmission.

5.
Lower the transmission.

2. Transmission - Install


1.
Make sure the two dowel pins (A) are undamaged and installed in prescribed holes on the engine block as shown. Replace the dowel pins if they are damaged.

2.
Place the transmission on the transmission jack, and raise it to the engine level.

3.
Align the transmission mainshaft and the clutch pressure plate.

4.
Move the transmission inward until there is no clearance between the transmission housing and the engine block.





5.
Install the lower transmission mounting bolts (A).

3. Torque Rod Bracket - Install


4. Clutch Case Cover - Install


6. Driveshaft Heat Shield - Install


7. Front Subframe - Install


1.
Support the front subframe with a transmission jack (A).

2.
Raise the front subframe up to the body.


4.
Remove the transmission jack.

8. Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Install


9. Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Loosen

1.
Loosen the torque rod mounting bolt (A).

13. Vehicle - Lift Down


15. Transmission Mount - Install


1.
Position the transmission mount (A).

2.
Tighten new transmission mount mounting bolts (B) and loosely install new transmission mount bracket mounting bolt and nuts (C).

3.
Install the ground cable (D).

16. Upper Transmission Mounting Bolt - Install


17. Engine Support Hanger - Remove


18. Universal Lifting Eyelet - Remove


20. Side Engine Mount Mounting Nut - Loosen


21. Side Engine Mount Mounting Nut - Tighten


22. Transmission Mount Mounting Bolt and Nut - Tighten


23. Harness Bracket - Install

1.
Install the harness holder (A).







2.
Connect the connectors (A).

3.
Install the harness clamp bracket (B).

4.
Install the harness clamp (C).

24. Change Wire Bracket - Install


1.
Connect the change wire ends (A) to the change lever assembly (B).

NOTE: Do not wipe off the grease of the change wire ends (C).

2.
Install the change wire bracket (D).

3.
Install the lock pins (E).

25. Slave Cylinder - Install


1.
Apply a light coat of super high temp urea grease (P/N 08798-9002) to the push rod (A) of the slave cylinder (B).

2.
Install the slave cylinder.

3.
Install the clutch line bracket (C) and the clutch line clamp (D).

NOTE: Be careful not to bend the clutch line.

26. PCM with Bracket - Install


27. Vehicle - Lift Up


28. Torque Rod Mounting Bolt - Tighten


32. Vehicle - Lift Down


39. Test Drive - Check
